I wanted a battery charger which was cheap, compact and lightweight. The Uniross travel charger ticks all the boxes with the added advantage that it can charge any number of batteries from one to four. I was a little concerned about the reviews which stated that the contacts were flimsy and likely to break. In truth it does feel a little flimsy in the hand, but I have not found this to be a problem and nor should it be as long as care is taken when adding or removing batteries from the device. Charge times are not as quick as other devices on the market. I found that it took around six hours to charge 4 high powered AAs. The best plan is to leave it charging overnight as the automatic cut off will ensure that your batteries do not get fried. The actual charger itself, without batteries weighs around 100 grammes and is ideal for backpacking. Just remember to keep it in a waterproof bag. An excellent product.

This charger was expected to have an adapter for the USA but it does not, despite the comments that it had worldwide plugs. On querying this with the seller, I was told it does not now have this USA adapter but no change has been made to the blurb on the site. The charger has good features but it is not well made and looks that it could easily break. Also, some of my batteries will not charge on this thing. Pay a bit more and get a better item.

Not much to say. I opened up the sealed package and noticed the terminals were already tarnished. Plugged it in, it didn't work with or without batteries. In theory a nice compact multi voltage device. In practice useless.

I own a few battery chargers, but not as light and travel friendly as this. However I cannot recommend you buy it, as too many corners have been cut as far as quality goes.

It charges at a rate of 500 miliamps an hour, so the included batteries should take about 4 hours for a full charge, which is quite adequate.

Simple indicator light: flashing green/steady green = charging/trickle charge and red means the battery is faulty. There is only one light on the charger, so not too useful if you are waiting for 1 or 2 out of 4 batteries to charge. One LED for each charging position would have been more useful.

Plug adaptors included, but can be fiddly to change. Runs on 100-240v and 50/60Hz, so will work anywhere there is mains electricity.

Like previous reviewers, I found the spring from one of the battery 'channels' (and later another one also) broke, so had to revert to another charger in the end.

It's a great idea, but unfortunately the quality of this particular charger is really too shoddy to recommend, unless you (again as a previous reviewer mentioned)carry out some DIY repairs. Uniross usually make good, robust chargers that last years (I still use a Uniross one dating from 1987 to charge nicads), so this is a disappointment. You should still look at the Uniross charger range, just not this particular charger.

I would say if you are unlucky enough that a spring does break, I would suggest emailing Uniross and complaining (especially if the warranty has not expired or only recently done so) and that it's not fit for its purpose if it breaks so soon.

Uniross might offer an environmentally friendly product (as rechargable batteries are), but this is not so friendly if it is so poorly designed/manufactured that a tiny little spring and its housing cause it to cease functioning! Of course this could be good old built in obsolesence rearing it's ugly head.

I bought this product previously and was happy with it for about a year until one side of it stopped working so I could only charge two batteries at a time. However, because I travel a lot, and the charger is so light and compact, I decided to give Uniross another chance and bought another one- let's hope this one lasts longer.

One other gripe though: if it's called "Globe Trotter", why is there no adaptor for use in Australia?

If you have a device that uses AA/AAA type batteries, this little compact universal charger is a boon whether you travel or not. But if you are a traveller, imagine slipping just a tiny package (batteries go with device) no much bigger than your mobile phone into your hand luggage and knowing that you can charge your batteries almost anywhere in the world as long as there is mains electricity. And it is fully automatic in operation, charging up to 2 or 4 batteries at a go in 3-4 hours. Mymemories, from where it came, is prompt and the price is very keen. Can't recommend more highly.

I was happy with the product until I got to charging the batteries - I spent about an hour trying to connect the UK adapter and the charger into a socket but it wasn't secure and the light would not turn on. I agonized over the instructions until I finally tried to use the adapter for Asia (luckily I have a power plug adapter I can use with this) and it connected to the charger securely and the green light showed. The African adapter could also be connected, and I realised it was the UK adapter which was faulty. I could not be bothered to return the product just for one adapter but this means I have to give it a lower rating than I otherwise would have.

A tip for first time buyers: check that all the adapters are working and can fit onto the charger securely without being able to be pulled off easily. Also, the instructions are hidden between the two layers of cardboard so you might not notice it straight away.

I've owned one of these before & loved it which is why I've purchased this one once the 1st one gave up the ghost after travelling long haul with me for around 4 years. I used the previous one in Thailand, Cuba, India, Egypt & of course in the UK. It folds up lovely & small, is light enough to carry in my hand luggage, charges both AA & AAA batteries & the plug fittings are easily interchangeable. The charging light makes it clear when it is charging & when it has finished.
