Eddie Kantar's humour makes this very technical book a pleasure to read. He begins with the very basics of RKCB, and the first half of the book will be of interest to all intermediate players. The later sections, however, are for EXPERTS ONLY. Don't say I didn't warn you.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not worth it for us... 23 Jun. 2011
By Donald H. Davis - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
It was a somewhat interesting read, but of little practical use, beyond the basics (key cards, queen ask and specific kings) for my partner and I. We play precision with lot's of bells and whistles, including Roman key card, so we are not put off by complexity. But the nuances this book provides won't come up often enough to merit the time we'd have to invest. And the idea of playing both 1430 and 3014, depending upon the preceding auction, put me off from page one. I was able to force myself to finish the book, but I can't recommend it to anyone but the most serious players.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not for solo reading... 3 April 2012
By Reader by Night - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
In the Introduction, Eddie asks and answers the question: How can you best use this book? His answer: If you don't have a regular partner, you can't; don't even try.

I would add that if you and partner are not willing to take considerable time discussing each topic, agreeing what to include or exclude in your system and practicing your bidding until you've gotten the bugs out, then don't bother either.

That is not to say that solo reading can't be helpful. I studied the book with a regular tournament partner but also play with a number of other people in club games. Each of them know different aspects of RKC and having read through the entire book I am more comfortable adjusting to individual preferences (1430 vs. 3014 vs. using both; incorporating a basic "minorwood" RKC for the minors or Exclusion Blackwood.) So for the curious, feel free to read it cover to cover, but I honestly think without a dedicated partner you can spend your time more fruitfully improving some other aspect of your bridge game.

2.0 out of 5 stars Is it worth it? 15 April 2009
By Plato - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
This book describes a system for reaching slams that unless the partnership spends hours discussing the nuances is certain to lead to disaster. If you are prepared to spend the time, good luck it will pay off once in a blue moon!
5.0 out of 5 stars Must read 23 July 2012
By M. R. G. Apparao - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
Excellent for intermediate and advanced players. But as Kantar says you will be able to use the concepts suggested only when playing with a regular partner. I have read it twice and did not find any logical inconsistency. Must be read by all serious players.
