This book Bridge Bum, the is very readable and difficult to put down. Some great stories and fun plus a little bitterness where he comes across those unethical players of the world's greates game. This is a classic that will entertain and inform bridge players of all standards.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book 4 Feb. 2009

I thought the book was down to earth and provided a great deal of useful information about bridge and bridge opponents.

3.0 out of 5 stars I did not like the hands being double dummy 14 Jun. 2007
By B. Einhorn - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
I thought it was decent, 3 1/2 stars. I did not like the way the hands were presented and the card play described. Other recent nooks have done a better job. Maybe this was a good bio for its time, but more recent books, such as Hammans "At the Table" or Sabine Aukens book "I Love this Game" were better.

I also liked Zia book "Bridge My Way" a lot more.

Overall the book is ok, but its not great, its not a 5 star book.

5.0 out of 5 stars a book about bridge pros, not a bridge book 8 April 2013
By M&M - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
TBB:MLaP is generally considered to be one of the best bridge books of all time. As long as one is not expecting it to teach them how to play, defend or bid better, the book very much delivers on that "top ten" promise.

Sontag writes in a very casual, page-turning style, moving from one story/theme to another effortlessly, while painting pictures of the various bridge pros and clients involved. This makes the book accessible to a wider array of readers, from novices to experts, than most bridge books.

I recommend it highly, and I find myself rather curious how many enemies Sontag generated by including the chapter on cheating (which possibly even a non-bridge player could read and understand).
