Product description

About the Author

As a fan of all things post-apocalyptic, D.L.Gore had been talking about writing a book for years... and talking... and talking. Finally after much procrastination and cajoling, helped by a large dose of 'either get on with it or shut up about it' from those close, it happened - both the shutting up and the writing. The debut novel of The World After series was born - an exhilarating, yet touching, story of personal discovery and adventure, based in a post-apocalyptic world that was all too nearly our own. Influences and favourite authors include: J.G. Ballard, John Christopher, Susanna Clarke, Justin Cronin, Philip K. Dick, William Gibson, Robert Harris, Harry Harrison, Hugh Howey, Aldous Huxley, Sergei Lukyanenko, Richard Matheson, Julian May, Alan Moore, Robert O'Brien, George Orwell, M.P. Shiel, Nevil Shute, J.R.R Tolkien, H.G. Wells, John Wyndham. See theworldafter.co.uk for more information and updates.

I've always loved the post nuclear adventure genre and this book took me back to a teenage past of devouring those style of books. I loved this book, hard to put down when you feel as though the main protagonist's journey becomes your journey. Beautifully thought provoking as well as creating an amazing landscape of devastation from an area of the world I grew up in. Highly recommended

A thought provoking storyline with moments of high drama, fear and pathos. The author has managed to get inside the mind of a headstrong, feisty character exceedingly well. With unexpected twists within the plot, this is a story of what might have been, and really has you grateful that it didn't happen.

I really enjoyed the book despite being a tad older than the target audience. It has a lot of local detail and is unusual in the subject with unexpected twists.

One of my favourite genres!
I really enjoyed this book. Well written, easy to read and a real page-turner! (I read it from cover to cover in just over three days!).
With a few surprises along the way, you are drawn into what might have been right from the start.
With good use of description I felt I was travelling alongside the main character & could see the world through their eyes and feel their emotions.
Hope to read more by this author in the future!

Set in a post-apocalyptic world, after a factual event leads to a fictional alternative history. A gripping tale of adventure and discovery, with some heartfelt emotional moments too. Written in the first person, it really captures the self-confident naivety of the central character. The well researched background information helps to totally immerse you in a very believable 'world after'. It leaves you questioning your own preconceptions and wanting more.
