Artist: Tutto Matto
Manufacturer: Tummy Touch
Italians Tutto Matto are the Black Box of their day--two sample-weaving DJs paying homage to disco by chopping it up and deftly rearranging the pieces. With the same magpie eye, Paulo Guglielmino and Jurij Prette create cut and paste music fashioned from a wealth of sources, yet instead of cheesy house, this pair of itinerant doodlers are more interested in "the funk" and how they can mould it to their own design. Layering strand after strand of percolating percussion, coiling impossibly rubber basslines and bringing an off kilter approach to everything they touch, Tutto Matto manage to be both humorous and sexy at the same time. Hence "Meeny Meeny Chi Chi", which fuses sweet African rhythms to Chic-like gloss with remarkable aplomb, and "Welcome To The Marble Room"--an unholy hybrid of Spandau Ballet's "Chant No 1" and the classic theme to Starsky & Hutch. They shouldn't work but they do.--Paul Tierney
Top Customer Reviews
Tutto Matto have managed to create a diverse mix of disco tracks that are layered with dirty funk bass lines, upbeat percussion, and electro sounds. If you're a fan of funk or disco then you will not be disappointed with this album.
Only gave it 4 stars because it does go downbeat for a few tracks in the middle which kind of ruins the buzz they've given you. Or maybe they knew you'd need to sit down and chill out for 10 minues!!
