Product description

Product Description

Last year all the bands emerging from the Libertines scene were lumped together. Now most have established their identities and marked out their own territory. Rising to the top of the pile, The Paddingtons have turned heads with their vicious hi-energy rock'n'roll sound, pure pop songs, good looks, andincendiary punk live shows. They are also staunchly anti-crack'n'smack, though not strangers to a good party. Another thing that sets them apart is that they hail from Hull, East Yorks, rather than East London. Stuck out on a limb geographically, bombed to bits in the war and crippled by the decline of its fishing industry, Hull has been saddled with a bad reputation – it was named #1 in The Idlers Book of Crap Towns. Its always been hard for bands to break out but now Hull's on the rise with their football team Hull City being promoted and The Padds in the charts.

These guys are already big in Yorkshire, and i've seen their profile rise steadily across the pennines aswell. Their sound is best dcescribed as pop punk, ala babyshambles (their influences are US and UK punk) They're not as melodic as the arctic monkeys and sometimes the lyrics don't venture further than predictable teenage angst, but their are some top tunes on this album.
Maybe a lot of people miss the point when their sat in their living room listneing to this on their stereo. They are amazing live, or i suppose more broadly, just amazing really loud.
Standout tunes for me are 50 to a £, sorry and 21.
And contrary to some other comments on here, The Paddingtons don't hail from London but Hull in Yorkshire (and they're proud of it.)

After seeing the Paddingtons live a few times, i was very excited about this album . Live, they have an energy you cant ignore. Have this album is yet another album released by a band in the'indie revelution' post Libertines that it a complete let down. The opener 'Some old girl' is one of the few highlights on the album, catchy , raw, fast and a great way to open the album. 50 to a £ and 'worse for wear' are attempts at the Clash but come of more Green day. 'Loser' however is another highlight, written by the drummer, is again a catchy power pop song, however this seems to be a theme running throu the album and it gets very boring.

Lyrically and vocally they are limited, and the album begins to sound like a band tribute to the early punk era. The Clash's influnce is so strong over this band, they have even attempted and ska/reggae song in 'alright in the morning', but thats what it is an attempt. This ablums is nothing new, if you love the early punk sound of raw guitars, like songs about hangovers and getting hammered then buy it. Again a good attempt by a band , but its says it all then an album finsh's with a song called 'sorry'

The Paddingtons album is by far one of the best albums to be released. They are an amazing live band....they make your hairs stand on end and you get that great sensation down your back. If your touching 40 yrs and over! and you enjoyed going to live gigs in the past to see the likes of The Cure, the Clash, Bauhaus,Killing joke, Talking Heads,The Specials,...then The Paddingtons will do it for you and this album is the nearest you will get to feeling 16 years old again ! buy it, it is a belter, if your not into it you can guarantee your kids age 7 years upwadrs will be !!
