Once you get up and running the fighting is as hard as you want it to be. Thankfully there is a "beginners" setting for learners like me. Though after only a short time you'll be moving onto more advanced settings. I'm a long way from the "Hell" setting... though I make long enough combos, my best so far is 23. The COM is a pretty good opponent. But playing your mates in Versus mode is best for me.
And one of the best parts I like about the game is that each characters fights really differently. The way it works is that you might hit upon a really cool combo strategy as Noel to floor Bang time and time again. But next up, when you play Litchi the same thing doesn't seem to have hardly any effect and you have to find a new route in. That stops it quickly becoming repetitive and rally does make it a lot of fun
Blazblue features everything you could wish for in a beat-em-up, 12 awesome and very different characters, stunning HD visuals and backgrounds, lots to unlock, a great soundtrack and, of-course, fantastic fighting action. Like many other 2D fighters (In particular, Guilty Gear) characters can only move left to right with simple attacks, combos and throws controlled by light, medium and heavy attacks. Emphasis is placed on aggressive attacking, dashing and aerial combat - sometimes the action can be so fast and chaotic it can prove a challenge to keep up! Adding to this fighting system are each characters specific 'Drives'.
In short each character's 'Drive', affects how they function during battle, one character can freeze opponents solid, another can use wind manipulation to zip around the ring or pressure opponents with rapid attacks and another can control a marionette to attack his foe. Initially sounding complex, 'Drive' attacks are actually very easy to grasp since all drive commands are mapped to the same, single button, however mastering each characters unique 'Drive' will require a lot of time and practice.Read more ›
