Product description

Nomad 7 Solar Panel Transfer energy from the sun to your device. Ultra lightweight, and portable, weather-resistant solar panel enables you to charge handheld USB/12V gear directly from the sun. Use a Goal Zero portable power pack and store power for your gear day or night. The fold-able Nomad 7 Solar Panel Goal Zero is the most compact and lightest of the Nomad series and provides solar energy on camping, longer adventure trips, trekking or multi-day trips, when away from power outlets, for electronic devices such as mobile phones, GPS, camera or music player. With the circumferential attachment loops, the panel can easily be attached to a backpack or other equipment even while hiking! The robust and weatherproof outdoor Nomad 7 is completely outdoor-proof and can be used in a wide range of temperatures. Powering What the Nomad 7 Solar panel can charge The Nomad 7 will directly charge most USB and 12V devices (not tablets). Most handheld USB devices, include: Cell phone, smart phone, GPS, MP3 player. It also can split the incoming solar power between the two ports to charge devices simultaneously. Some devices may not be compatible. The Nomad 7 Solar Panel will not hold a charge as the panel produces power only when exposed to sunlight. To generate the most power, angle the panel toward the sun. This improves your ability to collect power from the sun. Clouds and windows affect collection efficiency. If you would like to store power, combine the Nomad 7 with a Goal Zero recharger. USB and 12V devices like cellphones, GPS and iPods. You can plug in a 12V device and USB device at the same time, however, you will slow down the charge time for both devices. Some phones require very specific and constant power. If so try changing the angle of your panel and re-plugging in your phone. Most charging issues are overcome by incorporating a Goal Zero portable recharger. Lastly Chaining additional solar panels is a great way to charge your device from the sun in less time. Yo

I went on a cycle tour hoping to rely on this - shmuck. On the sunniest day, I went to great pains to make sure it was always facing the sun wherever it was on my bike, after 9 hours of constant cycling, constantly in the sun I got... 20% battery charge, with my phone on aeroplane mode. It's fine if you need something to run appliances that are already charged, but don't rely on it to charge anything.

Excellent thing. While camping and hiking it keeps all my battery-powered gadgets charged. It folds up really tidy and is easily attached to rucksack or tent using the strong sewn-on loops.

5.0 out of 5 stars Goal Achieved 10 Nov. 2013

I just got home from a month of remote travel, with VERY high praise for the new 11800 Nomad V2.
I exclusively used it to charge our GPS, cellphones, digital cameras, and Kindle Paperwhite.
It packs down safely very fast, and deploys effortlessly in any scenario.
A big ziploc bag allowed charging sensitive items literally out in the rain;
While some days i hiked wearing my Nomad across my back, etc.
It took a beating, worked flawlessly, and simply never disappointed.

3.0 out of 5 stars NOT as fast as advertised 12 Jan. 2017

I bought this for obvious reasons and am disappointed at the speed (or I should say "lack of speed".
It was shown in the papers that came with it and possibly advertised on this site that it would fully charge the Goal Zero Switch 10 in 4 hours of direct sunlight. That is BS! I sat it in a chair on my patio in direct sunlight hooked to the Switch 10 for about 6 hours and it was about HALF charged. It also indicated it would charge a Smart Phone in 4 hours. I hooked it to my Samsung Galaxy Ace Style phone at about 18% charge for 4 hours and when I checked on it my phone had actually DROPPED to 4%. I only gave it 3 stars because it actually WILL charge the Switch 10 but on hiking conditions in and out of sun on the back or top of a back pack in the forest would probably take about 3 days. I will NOT recommend this Solar Panel to ANYONE!

4.0 out of 5 stars Works well in bright and direct sunlight 3 Oct. 2016

This is a great product. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was the carabiner clips broke on my first trip, and also because it needed some really bright and continuous sunlight to charge my Galaxy S7 adequately. I was hoping I could just clip it on my pack and it would work, but you really need to be somewhere that you can set it in direct sunlight for a long duration of time to charge adequately. Cloudy and overcast days are not very good if you expect to get a decent charge for your devices.

5.0 out of 5 stars It works! 2 Feb. 2017

I've been using this for 3 months now. On a sunny day at the end of December in the California Central Valley I could sit the Nomad 7 outside in the sun and it charges my Goal Zero Flip 20 storage battery in about 5 hours. At this time of year I can also leave it on the dashboard of my car and if the car is facing south the Nomad 7 panel nearly charges the Flip20 battery during a work day. And this is through a tinted window. (leaving inside a hot car during the summer probably wouldn't be a good idea for battery lifespan). If a cloud passes overhead, or if I step in front of the Nomad 7+ panel it restarts the charging, no need to fuss with it or check on it. When fully charged the Flip20 has enough storage to charge about 2 iPhones. I got this set up for camping and look forward to using it this summer when camping in locations where I won't have access to a 120V outlet to charge my phone or watch.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice, But!! 16 Jan. 2015
By Todd McWhite - Published on Amazon.com

I bought this not really knowing what to expect. Yes, I read the reviews here and others sources before buying so I am not totally disappointed. I have an I Phone 5........ and this panel simply will not charge the phone regardless of how intense the sunlight is outside or the positioning of the panel relative to said sunlight! I was able to plug in the unit and the phone would indicate that it was charging; about 15 secs later it would stop charging. It simply cannot generate enough juice for the phone.

I have used it on the android phones in our household and it works really well to supplement as battery that is semi charged. If the battery is DEAD then you will have to be patient and wait for results!
