Its not clear from the description but the actual maximum rating is 2kW (roughly 8A) not the full 13A. Otherwise does exactly what I wanted and meters the energy used. Its not yet clear to me how to reset the energy reading which defaults to a cumulative total, but that's not an issue for me. I have remotely switched it but thats not a facility I really require or use. Despite the cost being entered in GBP the summary displays USD. Again not an issue for me, but could be for others.

Finally, a U.K. smart socket that works with HomeKit!

Elgato are easily the leaders in this field, and it really shows in this product - it's super easy to setup and pair using the Eve app, and so far, has worked flawlessly via the built in iOS 'Home' app, via Siri commands and remotely (using my Apple TV4 as my home hub). Where Belkin have failed with their Wemo Switches, Elgato have triumphed; the units use Bluetooth LE to communicate so there are no router/wifi issues here - these were very common with my Wemos. Simply put - if you are in the U.K. and are thinking of investing into the home automation field and are going down the Apple HomeKit route, then the Elgato Eve Energy is the way to go if you need a switchable outlet.

Found this in the Apple Store a few weeks before it's official launch so have been using this about a month now. What I love about the Eve Energy is that it is configurable as to what is plugged in, the current options are just as a standard outlet, a light, or a fan, for users of HomeKit this is great, as it shows up as the correct device type in the new Home App in iOS 10. My only issue is the delay that comes with it using bluetooth over wifi, compared to the likes of Philips Hue which updates instantaneously, updating the status of the Eve Energy can take 5-10 seconds on average. Otherwise it works incredibly well, and it's currently the only UK/IE plug that works with HomeKit, thanks Elgato!

I would only use home automation devices that work within Apple's HomeKit environment because Apple is the only company to take Internet of Things (IoT) security seriously and to require all products with HomeKit approval to adhere to their highest security standards. If you don't want hackers to piggy-back onto your house network and ruin your life by hijacking your internet-connected gizmos (from dolls, to locks, to fridges,to cameras) then you absolutely MUST ensure everything that connects to your home network is secure. You can't just assume it is. There is a reason HomeKit devices are more difficult to find: many manufacturers are not willing to put the effort in to comply with HomeKit security. Caveat Emptor!

The Elgato Eve is excellent. Unobtrusive, nicely designed with its own app PLUS it is perfectly integrated with Apple HomeKit so can be completely controlled within Apple's own Home app, providing a high level of automation possibilities with just a few clicks.

Simply plug any dumb device into the Elgato and it becomes automated. I have my electric blanket and standalone room heater plugged into my Elegatos and this enables me to turn them on even when I'm driving home. You can even control them completely automatically so they turn on when you cross a user-defined geofence.

This is great. Forming part of the Apple Homekit ecosystem, it only works with iOS devices and you will need either an AppleTV or iPad (Settings->Home and 'Use this iPad as a Home Hub' for remote control. Beyond that, this is pretty simple - it turns things off and on! As it's part of HomeKit it can be programmed with times, and/or as a result of other activities such as another plug or light being turned on, or sensors being triggered. It can be controlled using the Home app, or with Siri and in the Home app you can tell HomeKit the type of device plugged in so it understands if it's a light to respond to Siri commands such as 'Turn the light on in the lounge'. It works without an appleTV or iPad as a hub but only if you are within Bluetooth range. This is the first drawback of this product. As it is not WiFi folks in big houses will struggle without iPads and AppleTVs controlling the device. The second drawback is the nature of the Bluetooth connection - it is not held open constantly so response times can be several seconds. If you are used to Hue bulbs, which has millisecond response times, this isn't great but frankly most use cases don't need this sort of response time so it's more than acceptable.

Beyond this, using the Eve app from Elgato, it keeps track of power usage so it can be used to track costs and Kw usage. You'll need to open the Eve app every so often to sync the data and be within range of it.

I was looking for a plug which worked with HomeKit and this fitted that bill perfectly. It even had smart features to track usage.

The design is by far the best on the market, could be a a little small if you ask me, but still looks good. It does stick out a little, so bare that in mind before buying.

The app is fantastic, and it worked well. Then about a month after use it just died, and wouldn't work! I contacted Elgato who said they would provide me with an RMA, after a week of waiting the RMA turned up in my email, which was fine but I was expected to cover the shipping costs to Germany!! Seriously?!? Not even an offer of a replacement. So I ended up returning to Amazon as the plug was not that old and got a refund.

All in all it could be a great smart plug, but could fail. And customer service is poor from Elgato.
