only 3 tracks but what 3 tracks!the definative cool version of "comin' home baby" lasting 8:37 mins:the iconic version of "summertime" lasting 10.18 and finally "it aint necessarily so" lasting a full 19:55 mins!this is one of those rare live recordings that,on the night, everything comes together and perfection is made.if you havent any herbie mann records then this is THE one to get.mellow light jazz flute at its best with just vibraharp, bass, conga and percussion backing it all up and gelling into one satisfying whole. a must

I was recommended this album which has good reviews and recommendations on this site and others.

To my mind this is "party dance" music. Obviously a live recording, each of the three lengthy tracks feature a lot of percussion (two percussionists / conga drummers plus a "jazz drummer in a sextet!) There are only two "melody" instrumentalists (Mann on flute and Hagood Hardy on vibes). With the shortest track lasting over 8 minutes, the solos (mostly Herbie Mann, exclusively on flute) are long. Some compare these solos with those of Coltrane, but in my ming Coltrane takes the biscuit.

The tone on all three tracks is upbeat, despite two being traditionally "ballads".

If you are in the mood for engaging physically with the music, this album is for you. My preference is for the first track (which incidentally has two bass players to make a septet). The other two are over long, but in the live situation euphoria sustained the performance.

over 10 minutes long, the first track is the best. It has a slight funky rythm to it with Mann in top form. Lovely pre-drinks party warm-up track.
