5.0 out of 5 stars How to Work toward a Marriage that Is Better Than Expected 18 Aug. 2014
By Alexander R. Tandon - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
Tripp has been one of my favorite author's since I read "Instruments in the Redeemer's Hand" in seminary. This is a great book! It's greatness does not lie in its helpful example or in lists of practical steps toward achieving a better marriage, though these are included and are very helpful. The greatness of this book lies in its consistent message that the only hope for a God-honoring, joy-filled marriage is found in the grace extended to us at the cross.

This book helped me to see that the biggest threat to my marriage lies within. When I insist on building up my "kingdom" rather than submitting to the just rule and plans of His kingdom, my marriage will be in trouble. But when my wife and I, instead, give up on our "kingdoms" and truly seek to participate in the building up of His kingdom, He will do an awesome work both in and through our marriage.

Buy this book. Read it WITH your spouse. Prayerfully read it with an open heart and mind and God will use this book to open your eyes to the areas where you need to be reminded of His grace.

5.0 out of 5 stars Be sure to Buckle Up 6 May 2017

This book is amazing. Hubby and I have been married 25 years. We went through the book together just as a 'let's make sure we are doing things the right way so we get another 25 years together' self help project. We loved it so much and learned so much that our pastor asked us to lead a small group from our church. Nine couples join us each week. I'll be honest some of the Bible truths are not always easy to plug in. Looking at yourself honestly is not always pretty, but WOW when you follow the ideals in this book, Getting yourself right with God so that you are able to be the spouse you should be is right on target. A great book for premarital counseling, a newly married couple or a couple working on 40 years....Just do it. I promise you won't be sorry!

5.0 out of 5 stars This is the best book on marriage my wife and I have read 6 Nov. 2014
By Josh the Long - Published on Amazon.com

This is the best book on marriage my wife and I have read.

We tried several others, but none of them really jived with who we were and the struggles we were experiencing.

The first 13 months of our marriage were really difficult, I think it was partly because we were so different, and partly because we were so sinful at heart. We ended up in a small group from a church where they were going through this book, and it changed our marriage (as cliche as that sounds).

This book deals with the heart, and how wickedly evil it can be if you're going to be really honest with yourself. It really helped us to see our weaknesses, and in light of Christ "when I am weak, then I am strong."

The stories in it are kind of cheesy and long winded at times, but I think they help get the point across.

I can't recommend it enough, and I'm going to buy it for my newly married friends (along with a fun gift).

5.0 out of 5 stars It is written....GOD MUST BE AT THE HEAD OF ALL THINGS 10 Feb. 2017

Excellent read! I would recommend this book to EVERYONE considering marriage...engagement....married...seperated...and divorced. The lessons contained are realistics and helps couples understand that the romantic side of love is not enough to sustain even the most profound level of love for we are also have romanticize what love truly is. God is pleased when we please God. Following God's will in terms if how we treat one another is how we maintain peace in marriage. Godly grace exercised in marriage is the example of how we get through the marriage with grace.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth it! 3 Dec. 2015
By LovestoCook - Published on Amazon.com

Excellent! Solid biblical principles and counsel on how to check your own selfishness and view yourself within a relationship as being an instrument of God's grace. The principle the author teaches at the very beginning, about viewing the other's sin, or weaknesses as evidences of God's grace to you because you can see/experience them - was mind boggling, but made so much sense! Definitely worth every bit you can get out of this to apply to your marriage (or relationship building toward marriage). We haven't yet gotten past the 4th chapter (we keep going back and gleaning new stuff from the first 4 chapts), but SO worth using this as tool in your marriage/relationship! It points to Christ and that's always where hope and change lie.
