Format: Hardcover
This book has a lengthy introduction showing ribbons, zips and all the accessories and tools of the trade. It shows the anatomy of a sewing machine, details on stitches, sizing for patterns, fabrics and a lot more. The instructions are easy for anyone to understand, a lot of stitchers will already know the information, so this book is aimed at beginners. The information is presented in a neat format with excellent photos and illustrations. Learn all about sewing basics - seams, curved seams and more. The projects are suitable for any skill level from beginner up. They include a handsome window blind, tote bag using enclosed seams, pyjama trousers, pintuck camisole, girl's sundress, curtains, washbag, cushions, drawstring bag, bolster, customized t-shirt, aprons, evening purse, skirt, tablecloth and napkins and small quilt. Each project features a technique, which is amply explained beforehand. Templates are also included. If you have never quite understood sewing or your projects don't look professionally finished, this is the book for you. This review first appeared on yarnsandfabrics blog.

I have a sewing machine but wasn't too sure how to use it, it's a Singer 1960 so quite different to the modern ones.
I really wanted to find a book that would show me how to use a sewing machine, what materials I need, and eventually patterns.
This book has all that and much more!!
I am so pleased I bought this book, the best parts about it for me are how great the pictures are and clearly labelled... like a page of different trims, a page of needles... it's so clear and simply laid out but with enough information!
I think this book is suitable for a complete beginner, but also for people who want to brush up on their skills.

I love this book. Even this morning I took to reading it again in the early hours, determining that I will slip stitch the edge around the Swedish blinds that I am in the process of making, something that I'd never thought possible! I recommended this book as essential to all homes.

good basics, but to be honest I expected a little bit more. But if you are just starting, it is a good one to have on the shelves.
