Continuing the very funny and much loved Preston Pig series, this book sees Preston set off to the shops with his football. Once again, the text and illustrations add up to a very funny book and one which will appeal to football fans especially. These books are loved by children who enjoy the repetition of the text and large print of selected words - ideal for getting children to join in as beginning readers. Also very good are "Suddenly" and "Oops" by the same author.

Colin McNaughton's Preston Pig series is truly wonderful stuff. The writing and illustrations create a comic world of incedible verve. McNaughton also writes children's poetry and it shows here, as the writing has a fun rhythm and incredible comic timing that fits perfectly with the illustrated story.

And so we have a young, dungareed Preson Pig, and his procine townsfolk who include Mr Plimp the shopkeeper, Billy the Bully, his Scholteacher and Mum and Dad. How they interact is a delight, full of comic pratfalls, but the ultimate fall-guy is Mister Wolf himself, always doomed to get the worst from Preston's antics.

My year and a half old son keeps coming back to them, and I'm sure he will do for some time to come. As will his parents.

Thoroughly recommended.

This was my son's favourite book for several years and one that I always enjoyed reading with him. We also has Suddenly! Which is equally good. One of those books that puts a smile on your face when you read it.

My niece loves this book along with others in the series. This one has a lovely repetitive Goal along with a wry humour for a toddler to enjoy.
