The beauty of this collection of techniques Jeremy Lazarus put together in this book is that anyone can easily apply them to their own life and achieve significant changes, with relatively low time investment. Given the pratical size of the book, it is easy to carry around; a plus for busy people who often find it a challenge to make time for coaching or self reflection.
As a coach and NLP practitioner myself, I very much like the easy to use nature of this book: the intuitive structure, cross-references between chapters, the clear explanation of what each technique/exercise is for, why the exercise is useful and how long it will take to complete.
I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to gain personal experience of how NLP works; and who wants to get different and better results in one or more areas of their life.
Lots of empty space in this book, I reckon it would make a good pamphlet. This is just a package of catch phrases and glib tit bits of ideas.
I would not recommend it, but maybe it is not for me, at least it didnt help one iota and after 1 day went straight in the bin, what a terrible waste of a tree
All though I'm still not convinced to NLP but I did find this little book very interesting and dare say it quite useful. I've tested a few of the many exercises out at work and have to say there is a benefit. The trouble is with these kind of books though is our busy lives soon get in the way and I'm sure in a few weeks I'll forget about the techniques and the book will be gathering dust on my desk hidden by the ton of work sitting on top of it.
Yes, there is a lot about goal setting so if you're not in to that kind of thing this book is not for you.
If you are looking to change a little and improve try and add a bit more positivity in to your life then you may find this book is the kick start you need.
It's very easy to read and understand, you don't get too bogged down by unnecessary and complicated terms plus there are lots of easy relevant exercises.
A perfect little lifesytle booster.
There is an interesting section on positive beliefs, such as "no failure only feedback". But little else.
Personally, I think it asks you too often to complete exercises, and annoyingly asks you to do this against a self-imposed time limit.
Read about NLP elsewhere, maybe scan this one, but I'd certainly not return to re-read this booklet.
I must confess, however, that when the workbook arrived and I started looking at it the impression I got was of a moderately uninspired "personal development" program of the sort that I've been subjected to at work on a number of occasion. Many things being trotted out that are "sort of OK" but not really particularly special, or vastly interesting, or even particularly inspiring.
All sound and fury, signifying nothing. Not "wrong" in any real way, but somewhat "so what? ish".
I dunno. Maybe it's just me. Maybe I'm just not receptive to this kind of "Linguistic Programming" ... but it does seem to me like not vary much packed behind a rather spectacular "scientific sounding" name. It's like the washing machine that advertises it's "hydrothermal" technology - "hydro" (water) and "thermal" (heat). Well - look at that! A washing machine that uses HOT WATER - amazing!
