If I could give this book more than 5 stars then I would as it is absolutely fantastic and a wonderful bedtime (or anytime) read. Both of my children love this book and it has been an instant hit which they ask me to read to them at least once a day and we have now had the book for almost a month and the novelty has still not worn off.

We have the paperback version which is a good sized book measuring 24cm by 30cm.

The book is written in a rhyming style throughout and not only is it very cleverly written but it also has absolutely gorgeous illustrations throughout. The story tells of a little mouse who is often forgotten, not noticed and disregarded by all of the other animals. The mouse watches the big brave charismatic lion on the top of his rock who has the full attention of all of the other animals and the mouse wishes he could be more like the lion. So the little quiet mouse makes the decision to be brave and make the journey up to the top of the rock to ask the lion to teach him how to be more like him. When the mouse gets to the top he has a surprise and an unlikely friendship is made.

This has a lovely lesson about trusting the little voice within, being brave and that "no matter your size, we all have a mouse and a lion inside".

I very rarely recommend things but I am happy to completely recommend this book if you are browsing and considering getting it as its a truly wonderful read. My children love this book and so do I and no matter the amount of times I have now read it to them it is still a joy to read.

The Lion Inside really is faultless. A soon to be classic, I would easily rank it alongside The Gruffalo and other firm favourites.

Set in the African plains, the reader quickly meets the two main characters: Lion and Mouse. Living on top of the rock, Lion appears popular and confident. In comparison, the gentle, quiet Mouse is often ignored or forgotten by the other animals. Wishing to experience Lion's popularity, Mouse decides late one night that he needs to learn how to roar and so plucks up his courage and goes to ask Lion to teach him. The rest is a tale of unlikely friendship, finding your true voice and the simple message that 'no matter your size, we all have a mouse and a lion inside'.

Accompanied by beautiful illustrations, this simple rhyming story is a delight. I would recommend it to all.

One of the most beautiful books I have ever read. Had my sister and I in tears when I read it to my 3 year old nephew. There are life reminders for adults and children alike "if you want things to change, you first must change you" as well as "we all have a mouse and a Lion inside". I first read it to my Nursery/Reception class and it is a firm favourite with the children. Could not recommend it enough.

Lovely book with some nice illustrations. The rhyming is a little tortured in places but my son (3) enjoys it. Doesn't contend with the likes of Giraffes can't dance and julia Donaldson but a pleasant change nonetheless.

My 5 yr old grandson loved this book and wanted to have it read to him over and over again. It has short sentences and short words so he can read it to himself now too. He identified with the mouse who forced himself to be brave and he loved the happy ending

Both myself and my 18month old adore this book. The illustrations are beautifully drawn; not the heavily black-lined, overly cartoony images so many children's books contain, and the soft yellows and oranges are soothing especially as a bedtime book. My son loves pointing out the animals and particularly enjoys the pages drawn from the mouse's point of view.
Have also used this as a PSHE lesson for KS2 children with great effect.
The story has a lovely flow and the rhyming is, in my opinion, very natural and not forced as many rhyming story books can be. I love the days when my son chooses this as one of his bedtime books.

My son likes the story, so that's good. There are times when I read these type of books to my son and the text loses its flow, which this one does every now and again. As I said, my son likes it, so its overall good.
