Read this book No 2 in series after reading No 3 first and No. 2 second (see those reviews). The story idea is good but just not long enough to do it justice so lets it down. Don't know if this is partly due to the editing but these books need to be double in length to do improve the flow and make more sense. The read is a bit disjointed and jumps from days to weeks from thoughts to actions, etc. There should have been much more character development. Whilst this is a work of fiction the characters and behaviours of the characters needs to be believable in respect to period it's written but also to the 'personality' of the supposed characters. I've pre-ordered book No. 4 so look forward to seeing some improvement since book No 3 was better than books 1 and 2.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sweet and Rather Simple 9 Oct. 2013

I agree with another reviewer that said Bonnie's story pales a bit in comparison to Claire's. But that's partly because there's more going on in this book with the other side characters and that meant there was less time spent on the main romance. Which is both a good and bad thing. Good, because it meant that there were other things to be interested by, and bad because... well... I'm mostly reading it for the romance.

The mystery is pretty great, although not very in-depth (again, with the length of the book some things got a little less time than they would have in a longer book), and just thrilling enough to be interesting. The romance itself seems to have some weird roadblocks that go beyond the fact that Stephen is nobility (although not wealthy and landless) and Bonnie is a governess. Those roadblocks don't become clear until the very end of the book and I thought them rather unnecessary honestly.

But it's a sweet fun read, I loved seeing Bonnie interacting with the Darrow children, I loved watching Stephen learning how to interact with them, and I loved it every time Bonnie put him in her place. For 99 cents and a continuation of the Governess Club stories - totally worth it. Looking forward to the next one.

5.0 out of 5 stars A bonny read. 3 Jan. 2014

This book had more to do with the children than the author's last book but she made the two young or orphans likeable and they didn't take over the romance.
Bonnie is left in charge of the two boys when their parents die in a carriage accident while she waits for the boy's guardian to turn up. When he gets there attraction and mystery follows.
I like the style of Ellie MacDonald 's writing and find her feel for the historical attitudes convincing. She entertains the reader and her ending makes sense.
I look forward to reading more of this series.

4.0 out of 5 stars I love this book, but.... 8 April 2014

I love this book it was easy to read. The characters were very likable. It’s one of the better one from new author I have read lately. With that said…

If I'm rate this book for the romance part, I would give it 5 stars. It was sweet and touching.

If I'm rate this book for the mystery part, I would give it 3 stars. I wanted more detail on the mystery; it needed more work. The basic why, where, when and how was not really clear and seemed rush.
4.0 out of 5 stars I like the characters 22 July 2014

I like the characters. They are strong women that know they don't want to be beholden to others the rest of their lives. They have a plan to improve their situations and fall in love with wonderful men. They all work together to make the plan work and don't judge each other. They love the children they are responsible for.
5.0 out of 5 stars The Governess Club: Bonnie 6 May 2014

The Governess Club series brings us a sweet love story with the latest novel, Bonnie. Bonnie and Sir Stephen protect the children left in their care, when they are threatened with mysterious accidents. So light mystery and romance are combined in this latest installment to the Governess Club
