Earlier in the series, Romana met up with a ‘knowledge broker’ by the name of Mephistopheles Arkadian. Now, while Romana would still like to find who is behind the Free Time terrorists, Arkadian reckons he has a bargaining chip he can use with her to sort out a problem of his own. But this problem appears to involve Charley Pollard’s sister Cecilia, and takes place in Europe in 1939, at a time when the world is poised on the brink of war. What could all this possibly have to do with Free Time, and why are Romana and Leela so worried?

This is the fourth and final cd in the first series of the Gallifrey stories. This is a really fitting end to this first series, and loose ends are tied up, but enough is left open (as real life is) to allow for the second series to kick off with strong characters, strong motivations and the continuing political and timelordish shenanigans will continue on. As always, the actors are very commanding in their performances, particularly Louise Jameson as Leela, and Andy Coleman as Torvald. Ms Joy was a joy indeed, and Arkadian, played by Hugo Myatt has just the right amount of devil-may-care and double-speak in his tone to convince any listener. Great stuff; looking forward to catching up with series two.

A Blind Eye is the 4th and final chapter in Big Finish's initial Gallifrey mini-series, and thankfully resolves the ongoing issues of who stole the Timeonic Fusion Device, and what happened to Leela's husband Andred - unfortunately I was left a little underwhelmed by both revelations, with Andred's fate being particularly corny. On the positive side this chapter is set on Earth 1939 instead of boring old Gallifrey itself, though the addition of India Fisher as 8th Doctor companion Charley's sister makes for a rather poor performance. The Gallifrey mini-series has been wildly up and down in terms of quality, but the teaming of Romana and Leela (+ both K-9's) works well, and while not essential the series is generally enjoyable.
