Although by no means a committed Eco-Warrior, I share many of the green fraternity's concerns. The thing is, It's all very well pontificating endlessly, but what can one person do on a practical basis? I found this book an interesting read, as it explains things clearly and is a good overall guide to making your home eco-friendly - from rainwater harvesting and reedbed drainage to building your own composting system.

I found that it strikes just the right balance between practical things you can do on a DIY basis, and more ambitious projects like all the various renewable energy options, underpinned with a hint of Green conscience and carbon footprint info without being at all preachy or doctrinaire in tone. A genuinely enjoyable an interesting read.

These haynes are very good at the overview of a subject and are clear and concise. It is not an answer for all things, but will prompt you to research further and the general level of advice and explanation is very good and bang up to date. Highly recommend.

This is a good book however, i had already bought home insulation manual, and I did not feel that I learned much from the eco house manual. Much of the information was repetitive. In fact, some pictures on window proofing were identical in the two books. So I don't think it is a good investment if you have already bought the home insulation manual.
