A nice little book, won't take you long to read, so perhaps perfect for a long haul flight or similar. It is 'basic' but if you are interested in how life was pre and during the war for 'normal' people and the aristocracy then give it a go. It isn't really a book about how she lived for years and years as a house maid but more a story of her life, how she came to be, how she came to travel to Worcestershire and how life was back then. Many of us old enough to have Grandparents or parents who lived through these times won't really learn anything new yet it still stirs the memories of those days when we were younger and the internet and mobile phones were a thing to be created! Don't bother with it if you are looking for an accurate history filled novel, but if you like a nice easy read then give it a go. Remember it is a book written (told) by an old lady who wants to bring her past to life again not an author who is desperate to become the next best million dollar hit.

I was fascinated by the in-sight into the social climate at this time. The author tells in wonderful, easy to read detail just how different classes were then. I'm sure anyone who lived through that period will find it extremely nostalgic.

Such a good read! Informative and factual but very very readable. An amazing true story brought to life in a charmingly understated way.
