Review

'A snapshop of images of ordinary and extraordinary people stories captured in one day.' --Metro

'As a snapshot of a day in the life of human existence, a new book of 1,000 photographs provides a remarkable vision of what different scenes around the world looked like on a single day - May 15, 2012. --The Times

'Alongside each photograph featured in A Day In The World are relevant details, including the name of the photographer, a description of what the picture is showing and its geographical location. The photography shows a great variety of situations and subject matter, as well as technical specifics - from small pictures snapped on mobile phones, to larger, more professional compositions - all with their own sincere poignancy and resonance. Celebrity participants in the project, run by a Swedish charity, include Virgin boss Richard Branson, former Irish President Mary Robinson and South African Archbishop Desmond Tutu, who said the photos would help people connect with one another and 'transcend the barriers of language, age, gender and culture'. --Mail Online

Firstly I must thank Amazon for yet again an amazing service, I ordered two copies of this book on Wednesday evening with FREE delivery and they arrived 36 hrs later on Friday morning - delivered by post van as the postman said 'the box with both books was too heavy to carry'! My excitement on receiving these books was because I had been informed that one of my photographs had been chosen from 100,000 photographs submitted from accross the world that were taken on 15th May this year. The charity aday.org organised this happening and has compiled this book with 1,000 of the images chosen specially by them. The book is a fascinating social document of our time showing pictures with captions written by the photographer, a fascinating insight into our world today. A hardback book with over 550 pages it is extremely good value.

This book really made my day. 1,000 fantastic photographs from all around the world taken on a single day reflecting everyday life from every corner. It really captures what it is to be human with images of sorrow, joy, birth, death, poverty, wealth, the mundane and the extraordinary. And what a great price for such a large and beautifully produced book - thank you Amazon!

I have to recommend this book - it gives you such a fantastic viewing of the world today. All 1000 images taken on the same day are beautiful, scary, funny, moving and joyful at the same time.
I have been looking through the book a couple of times and I always find something new. A book to come back to, to look through again and again and marvel at.

this book is perfect!

Bought this as a Christmas gift for my husband.
He is looking at it slowly, going through a few pages each day but it is one of those books which will be picked up time & time again & you will still find something new to look at.
It's not a new idea to create a book of photographs all taken on one single day of the year but it is a highly effective way of showing a snapshot of the world today.
Great gift idea. Think most people would be delighted to receive a copy of this.
No reading required;- it is after all a big coffe table picture book!

The book itself is very interessting. But it arrived in terrible condition. This was to be a Chrirstmas present so I was sad to see state it was in. the duster cover is damedge and ripped and the hard cover of the book is ripped at both top and bottom left corners. I thinnk if some picked it put by the front cover, it will rip right off...
But too late to send back before Christmas so it will have to do.

What a fantastic project of a book! I saw it being advertised on BBC breakfast and have since given it to several friends as a gift. You never get tired of looking at a few more pages and discovering more details and things you haven't noticed before. Gives an unbelievable insight into what people do and how they live around the world. If you like photography, THIS is the book to have!

This is a fantastic record of a day in the lives of ordinary people going about their daily business and photographed by friends, relatives and strangers. It made me realise once again that there aren't many differences between us and actually those differences are to be celebrated and respected. Enjoy!
