If you can ignore the fact that this book is not very Christmassy (and has a somewhat misleading cover!), this is a decent read - very light hearted and enjoyable. I thought the main characters were very good and well developed, I particularly liked Pippa.

I (like many others here) didn't realise that this book was part of a series, but that didn't really spoil my enjoyment of the read. I have docked it one star only because of the misleading Christmas side of it, but I would still recommend this book.

So if it is Christmas reads you are after, I would steer away (perhaps you should try I'm Dreaming of a Wilde Christmas (A laugh-out-loud romantic comedy) or Cold Feet at Christmas which are both fantastic Christmas reads), but otherwise give it a whirl!

This book had only a small Christmas element so I felt the title & cover were misleading & I probably wouldn't have bought it if I'd known.
The hotel protest storyline & merlins was long & a bit dull. I liked the main 3 women but didn't overly warm to any of them.
Turns out this is a sequel so may be its best to read the others to get to know the characters better although this could also be a stand alone.

'Coming Home for Christmas' is set in the small village of Hope Christmas where three close friends all have their own issues to deal with this Christmas. Cat is a TV-chef who is starting to worry she's becoming too old for TV. She is keeping her fingers crossed she will still be able to host her festive cooking show, but at the same time she's busy taking care of her granddaughter Lou Lou. Marianne is the mother of twins, which is already cause for quite hectic days. Things only get worse when her father gets ill and her husband's ex-wife suddenly comes back into their lives in an unexpected way. Pippa knows her marriage to Dan is over, but somehow she can't seem to let go. Not even her new boyfriend Richard is able to make her forget about her happy marriage, until Dan files for divorce. While the three friends have their own issues to deal with, their beloved village is in danger when developer LK Holdings plans to use certain parts of land for a luxurious hotel and spa. Will they be able to handle it all and have the merry Christmas they've hoped for...?

This book is actually the third part of a series, but I had no idea this was the case when I started reading it. Even though the characters have been through a lot and I sometimes had to read certain passages twice to really understand everything that had happened to the different characters, the book can definitely be read as a stand-alone. It only made me more curious about the other books! The novel has a great and well-drawn cast of characters at its core; I loved the switch from the points of view of Cat, Marianne and Pippa, and I couldn't get enough of each of their stories. They were different women, each with their own background and dreams and goals, and I simply loved reading about all three of them.

I Have read all the other books linked to this, and whilst it was lovely to revisit Hope Christmas, I found the story very repetitive and because all 3 couples had a story line, not enough details spent with everyone. Not very Chrsitmassy, but an easy read.

This novel has nothing to do with Christmas and is based around a group of vacuous individuals who I failed to distinguish from each other. Avoid. If I could give zero stars I would. Boring boring boring. I gave up, time is too precious to waste on this drivel.

Coming Home for Christmas is a brilliant read. It is part of a series (although I only noticed this when I had already read about half of the book), but can easily be read as a standalone. The author mentioned a few events that had happened before the plot lines that are covered in this book and I was wondering at the time why these were only briefly mentioned, but now knowing that there were already two previous books, this makes perfect sense. However, in the beginning of the book, Julia introduces (or rather re-introduces) her characters just fine and at no point did I have the feeling I was missing out on the storyline by not knowing the other two books.

Coming Home for Christmas tells the story of three main characters (Cat, Pippa and Marianne) and their perspective families. There are so many different topics covered in this novel, ranging from midlife crises to coming to terms with new relationships.

Ever since watching Gilmore Girls, I am a huge fan of stories that play in rural areas and explore close-knit small town life. Hope Christmas, the setting for Coming Home for Christmas, sounds absolutely wonderful and in my opinion, the author couldn’t have chosen a more perfect environment to place her characters in.

The storyline that I probably enjoyed the most is Pippa and Dan’s story. These two have just gone through a divorce after Dan had an accident (which was more than likely covered in the previous books) which left him with a fractured memory and uncontrolled bursts of anger. Although these two still seem to have an enormous amount of feelings for another, Dan thinks he is holding Pippa back and rather lets her go than to see her unhappy. The whole way through, I was extremely keen to find out what fate awaits these two.

I truly enjoyed this book, its fantastic characters and interesting plot lines. I am sure that I will read the two previous books in this series in the near future.
