Karen Linamen is all of those girlfriends rolled up into one and sprinkled with chocolate!
Regardless of where you are on your journey, this book is a great road map to get you where you are going. You will laugh, cry, and shake your head in wonder that someone knows just what you are feeling.
And then the Chocolate. The Sweet Secrets at the end of each chapter give great advice from other women on their life's journey and as a bonus there is a delicious recipe for sweet chocolate therapy!
It is impossible to walk away without being changed in some way by this book. Grab a little chocolate and settle in!
Karen Scalf Linamen has hilariously pulled together stories from dozens of women who have tested and approved strategies for embracing a sweeter life--even while traveling rocky roads. This book is chock full of joy, reasons to laugh, ideas to help you heal and reliable hop leading to a sweeter future. It is also riddled with recipes to help you find ways to indulge in a little chocolate every day.
Ms. Linamen is the kind of writer that makes you feel like you've made a new friend. She expertly weaves in stories from her life that lend to the book's authenticity. Her advice is sound and her humor is refreshing. I may not know quite what to say to someone who is going through a rough time, but I could point them to this book. I think it could be a ray of sunshine on what else would be a dark, lonely path.
This book was sent to me by WaterBrook Press in exchange for an honest review, as a part of their Blogging for Books program.
Most women relate to chocolate....we love dark chocolate, milk chocolate, chocolate truffles, chocolate coffee cream (well, this is my personal favorite) and the list list goes on. So much chocolate so little time <smile>
Now in The Chocolate Diaries the author, Karen Linamen, shares stories about her family, relationships with other women and how other women have overcome struggles....all involve chocolate!
One of my favorite chapters is entitled, Sweet Secrets, Because Real Women Don't Need a Cookbook. And on page 94 there is a recipe for Fab Fondue~Chocolate, of course! It's sweet and easy to make in your crockpot! Then you dip your favorite fruits in this wonderful fondue!
This is one of those reads that will make your life journey sweeter. You'll feel that the author is your friend because many of the situations that she talks about are things we all can relate to. Karen gives sage advice about life and brings us tips on how to deal with these life situations.
My favorite quote from this great read is, "When we're traveling the rocky roads of life, sometimes we need endurance for the long haul ahead. Sometimes we need healing for whatever it is we've just come through. Sometimes we need compasses to make sense of the crazy terrain we have to negotiate." And then right across the page is the recipe for a French Twist: Slice a croissant in half, fill with chocolate chips, microwave about 20 seconds and viola! instant indulgence!
Loved this book! A great-tastic 5 star not.to.be.missed.read!
