The thing I loved most about this book was how it goes step-by-step, explaining with lots of living stories, how to maximise every part of your business so that you can get out in front and lead it. It's well written, well thought out, and as a fellow author, I can see how much thought, planning and hard work has gone into distilling a complex set of ideas into a really accessible read.
I've given it five stars, which is always a tough thing to do, because perhaps this book isn't perfect. I think it deserves them however, because I am already using it personally to improve my business, and frankly I can think of no better endorsement of a book's fitness for purpose than that.
Hopefully there will be more from this author.
All the biggest factors I see in the growth of this company are listed in the book almost without exception.
The reason this books succeeds over others is simple; it is not a marketing book pretending to be a business book. So many other books I have seen in the same space are just that and forget the simple but crucial things like sustainability, company culture and employees. Steve Jobs did not invent anything; it was Apple as a solid multi-disciplinary team with a common goal.
What I like about the book
It covers everything I have seen as factors for success, having being in a fast growing company.
The book is written for a UK audience.
It’s well written and an easy read (I read the whole thing in two sittings).
It is not one of those ‘aspirational book pretending to be a business book’ that tend to litter the business bookshelf!
I did very poorly trying to play buzzword bingo with this book; its all clear language with no gobbledegook. A few too many TLAs ('three letter abbreviations') but nothing over the top.
From my experience with start-ups, there are three things the book misses. That’s actually a good result, as most books concentrate on marketing and miss a lot more!Read more ›
This book covers the fundamentals of business growth, the business growth transformation framework, inspirational leadership, building a high performing organisation, business purpose, aspirational goals and growth strategy, market potential strategy, compelling value proposition strategy, customer strategy, marketing and communications strategy, business development and sales strategy, people strategy, operational excellence strategy, finance and governance, control the controllable and your journey to mastery.
With lots of real life scenarios, advice on how to apply the concepts in the book, looking at challenges and how to make improvements. One of the other things I really liked about this book is that it is based in the UK. Obviously, American business books have lots of useful information, but it makes a change to have a UK-centric book that really seems relevant and realistic.
