5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding because it is both serious and accessible 23 Feb. 2017

I love assigning Carasik's The Bible's Many Voices to my students because he introduces serious critical issues in a stunningly accessible manner without compromising the scholarly integrity of the material it covers. This is an excellent introduction to Hebrew scripture and how to read it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pleasantly surprised to hear a voice in the midst of the quietness. 5 July 2016

Really nice discussion of the several sources and different genre that make up the Tankh. Explains the several sources in a way that amplifies the text for both the lay person with some prior exposure to the Tankh (or OT) as well as the more sophisticated reader. Well worrh the investment in time to read.
5.0 out of 5 stars Do you want to learn more than just the words? 26 Sept. 2014
By R. Farr - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover Verified Purchase
Beyond just the words lies the greater truth, revelation in the Bible. Rabbi Carasik takes one on a journey to find what lies behind the words. Here one explores the excitement of the stories and the idioms expressed by some of the words. There is an alive God seeking to reveal himself through the oral originals gathered by these writers and subsequent editors to compile the texts and bring them together. The JpS challenge that this for the brave and the seeking is accurate.
5.0 out of 5 stars A Welcome Voice in Bible Study 26 April 2015
By Trou - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover Verified Purchase
Michael's writing is liquid, lucid, and learned. It is, as good writing ought to be, like speech. Departing, as is his wont, from the restrictive, "snotty" style of so many academics, Dr. Carasik informs, teaches, and pleases the reader. One comes away from this work well informed, and deeply interested to learn even more! Buy it! Read it!
5.0 out of 5 stars different worldviews explained 15 Nov. 2016
By Michael Lewyn - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
There are numerous apparent contradictions within the Hebrew Bible; many commentators over the centuries have sought to either reconcile these contradictions or to debunk the reconciliations. This book suggests that these contradictions reveal different aspects of the Jewish worldview; for example, the Book of Chronicles was written after the Jewish return from the Babylonian exile, and thus tends to be pro-David and optimistic. The Book of Kings, written during the exile, is more pessimistic in tone and less likely to idealize David and Solomon.
