Product description

Review

THE ALLOTMENT COOKBOOK is very much a plot-to-plate collection of seasonal recipes, inspired by what grows throughout the year. With just a few simple illustrations and no photographs... and is all the better for it. (Crumbs magazine)

Whether you're one of the many thousands of Britons who plough their own furrow, or are simply interested in a more sustainable way of eating, this book offers plenty of ideas for cooking with seasonal, local produce. (The Lady)

Pete has turned his food expertise and love of gardening into a book inspired by a year in his garden. From what to plant, to how to cook it, this is a celebration of homegrown food. (BBC Good Food magazine)

With brilliant recipe ideas for keen gardeners or anyone looking for seasonal inspiration, THE ALLOTMENT COOKBOOK by Pete Lawrence pays tribute to glorious home-grown produce. (Rachel Khoo EVENT, Mail on Sunday)

Beautifully written book with mouth-watering recipes and fantastic tips and insight into growing crops on an allotment. Am going to work way through every recipe in the book.

What a lovely gem of a book; to call this a cookbook doesn’t quite do it justice. Don’t get me wrong its packed full of inventive but easy to cook recipes (where the ingredients are always the star, honest cooking, no frilliness here) but there is something lovely and lyrical about it, so even if you’re not looking for something to cook, you can curl up with a cup of tea and just enjoy the lovely rhythm of life on the allotment and the stories that unfold from it. You don’t have to have an allotment to love it either, I don’t (I think I may just adopt Pete Lawrence’s as my virtual one) there are growing tips but there are also just so many nice recipe ideas for seasonal stuff that hopefully I’m always buying the produce when its at its best and cheapest! Looking forward to experimenting in the year ahead and its gorgeous design has made a rather stylish edition to my packed kitchen shelf too!

This is the only cookbook I own where I want to make all of the recipes and I have quite a selection by all of the usuals, Rick Stein, Xanthe Clay, Bill Grainger & Tom Kerridge to name but a few. The recipes are inspired by the seasonal veg that the author has grown in his garden and are simple, wholesome and tasty. Whilst the book inspires you to try growing your own, all of the ingredients can be bought at the supermarket if you don't have the time, inclination or indeed garden space. A lovely touch is that the recipes are accompanied by stories about the author and his family and his experiences of growing seasonal vegetables which just adds to its charm. I won't tell you any of the recipes, just go and buy it, it's a truly beautiful book!

The old maxim goes that one shouldn't judge a book by its cover, but, in this instance, it's one to discard as the appearance of the book is utterly at one with the content. Sublime.

The contents themselves are wonderfully written, eloquent and a pleasure to read not only as a recipe book, but a piece of prose in itself.

This book is a gem. Easy to read, beautifully written and makes you want to grow every kind of veg or fruit possible. It's inspiring and motivating and I can't wait to try out some of the recipes. Very nicely presented and would be a great present for any keen gardener or cook!

I know you shouldn't judge a book by its cover but the bit of me that is as shallow as a puddle is in love with its design. First impressions count! This is a great gift book. It looks classy. And then what's inside? With an engaging and intimate writing style, Pete Lawrence manages to educate, inform & entertain. I am inspired. I will get digging this weekend but I won't be able to wait for my veg to grow to try out the recipes....sorry, but a trip to the shops will be necessary so I can knock up some of the mouthwatering recipes. YUM!
