I bought this to attach a couple of old VGA monitors. It only covers 1 expansion slot, and uses an incredibly low amount of power - 13w less than my old GeForce 8500 GT which is also powered from the PCIe bus - perfect. And if I get rich and get digital monitors then the same card will do as I can then use the HDMI and the DVI-I for 2 digital monitors.
However the card inside the box is a CLF VA.0 and NOT a CLF2 and the DVI output is DVI-D (i.e. ONLY digital, not digital-analogue combined).
The first time I accepted that 'anyone can make a mistake' so, after returning the item, I contacted customer service and asked them to look inside the box. They say they checked and wrote back "The bin check confirms that the inventory is as described on the website" so I went ahead and ordered the item again. It's just arrived and AGAIN its a CLF VA.0 with DVI-D instead of DVI-I. The box says CLF2 but the item inside is not - so it's going back and I won't be re-ordering.
I know that one can use a converter - I have one (bought from Amazon, cheap) and it works fine except that it gets really, really hot. I don't mind that when it's attached to my tablet and I can see the connector right in front of me and unplug it if it ever starts to smoke. But plugged in at the back of my PC I won't see the danger until too late. Also it is so hot that it might melt other cables. Again I won't see.
And spending a lot more to get a better converter seems a bit stupid when the card should do it for me.
Whereas with DVI-I all I need is a simple passive adapter - no signal conversion and no heat - because the 4 prongs on the right output an analogue signal.
One not very happy camper.

Works as advertised, runs windows 10 and plays movies on a 40 inch HD screen. Replaced a graphics card which drew too much power and kept crashing.Published 2 months ago by Paul A Blakey
