This is my second cord/cordless iron (the last was a Philips), and this Tefal is a bit clunkier to swap between the two settings, and is also a bit fiddlier to place back on its rest. Not massive problems, but these drawbacks do affect the overall rating. Right- or left-handed people should get along well with it: The cord is placed in the middle, rather than at one or other side.
The controls are graduated to let you select lots of different heat settings, and to opt for steam separately. This is excellent; much better than automatically adding steam to the hotter settings, as you get on some irons. This controllability is good. Blasts of steam, water spray and vertical ironing features are all good, and work well.
Slightly less good is the difficulty in knowing what heat you are selecting, especially when you start using the iron for the first time. There are two parallel scales: One with the dots (1, 2 or 3), and a fabric one with "cotton", "wool" etc. It is easy to know what you are selecting on the fabric scale, because there is a wee notch that shows you where you have set the control. However, if you want to select 2 dots, a medium heat for example, there is no notch to lock you onto that setting, so you have to sort of guess.Read more ›
anyway I have this iron and it has turned my most despised chore into something I can manage to do without getting into much of a mood. I have a child so the amount of ironing I do per week is never ending!!
anyway this iron allows u to iron without a cord which is really helpful, Im left handed and have always found irons to be a bit of a pain. This is the first one Ive used where I actually feel like I may survive ironing something without getting burnt!! lol
Steam works well - and u can switch this to off if u have left the iron standing for a bit and its steaming too much which is pretty handy. It is also really easy to clean, takes about a minute.
So far with this iron Ive not burnt anything, not done myself any damage and not run out of clothes that need to be ironed - so I think that shows that its worth buying :D
The Philips cordless iron I had previously (which lasted 5 years) was so much better. It's a shame they don't appear to make it any more.
