James is not only a classic with personality, he's also a very clever design based on genuinely thoughtful simplicity coupled with superb power and performance. Just flip the bright red switch to start professional-standard cleaning!
The unique caddy top is a brilliant idea - somewhere for your cable, the tools and even a duster and some polish, right where you need them, when you need them - every time. Even the cable is securely plugged to the machine, allowing easy replacement should it accidentally become damaged. Large capacity, four wheel stability, giant filters coupled with two stage Microflo' dust bags all combine to give you the very best of all worlds - a vacuum thats quick and efficient to use, simple to empty.
Accessories are to full professional size and specification - nothing skimped, nothing forgotten. Designed to do the job and do it well, wherever, whenever - James, a simple design that started where most others stopped.

I was a little worried that he would be under powered but even on the economy setting the carpet is lifted from the underlay, something my old hoover at a much higher rating was unable to do.
4 bags supplied as well as all of the attachments. The new version has a disc that slots on top to help wind the cable round which I find better than those automatically retracting systems. The cable is long enough to do pretty much the whole house from one central power socket.
First of all who doesn't like a Henry? They are cute.
Second having gone through the manufacturer's website there is no difference between the Henry, Hetty, or the Harry the wattage and suction capability are identical the Spec for the James is :
Energy Efficiency Class A
Carpet / Hard Floor C / C
Dust Re-emission C
Sound Power Level 72dB
Annual Energy Consumption 25.2 kWh/annum
Capacity 8 L
Suction 2300 mm H2O
Cleaning Range 26.8 m
Weight 7.6 kg
Motor Power 620 W
Power 230v 50/60hz
Now I've just used this cleaner and I have to say I am pleased so far. I took against drag-along cleaners because they are ungainly, untidy and in the past quite useless. But they have longer hoses so I was
a) able to hoover every nook and cranny in my downstairs using the variety of tools that it comes with.
b) able to pull it behind without it toppling over, getting stuck on door frames or it taking paint off the woodwork.
c) able to reach every part of the sofa and armchairs with ease.
d) able to clean the curtains, high places without it falling over.
Having used it my ears to do not ring. It is quite quiet. My nutribullet is noisier.
For such a low powered machine it has surprising good suction. Until I adjusted the tool for wooden floors it stuck itself to the floor and dragged up smaller rugs. It was easier to stand on small/light rugs whilst hoovering to save them moving around.Read more ›
The power cable doesn't retract into the unit unlike over Numatic vacuums, however it seems this has been fixed in the new JVP180A model.
My Mum has a Henry and since it's proved to be literally indestructible (Henry has a very poor diet a home), I thought I'd opt for his yellow brother.
James has proved to be very reliable and just as happy to suck up everything in his path including dog hair, liquid (I know you shouldn't) and vital small items which will probably mean I will lose my deposit. Safe to say that James is powerful!
Other than his gorgeous yellow face and cheeky smile, James comes with a number of attachments meaning that no dirt is safe when James is rolling the floors.
I do however have a few reservations:
1. James is not bagless as I previously thought - probably due to me not reading descriptions properly... That said, I have used him for 6 months or so now and I still haven't changed a bag. James has a big appetite I guess.
2. Unlike Henry or Hetty, James does not have a spindle cable-retractor. Rather, the power cable is wound around the top of the hoover manually and needs to be unravelled in the same way. That said, it you're prepared to commit the additional 30 seconds it takes to wind/unwind the cable, this won't cause you a problem.
3. The pipes that connect together to assemble to floor/rug attachment were said to be a little 'iffy' based on other reviews I read. Apparently they slip apart and are not as secure as the Henry/Hetty variants. From experience, if you are not a complete muppet and connect the pipes with a modicum of force they will cause you no problem.
All in all, James is a happy addition to my new apartment as has improved indispensable when undesirable characters in my new job attempt to invite themselves to my place and I get to politely decline because "my 'friend' James is visiting"...
