I would like to mention however that I believe the description to be somewhat misleading. If you measure the bag from the floor to the top of the handle it actually measures closer to 60cm than the 55cm stated in the advert, unfortunately this technically makes it too large to take on-board some of the budget airlines as carry on luggage. I say technically as I wonder how may airlines would prevent you taking it on for this reason but that's besides the point.
My solution was to remove the handle completely and to use a strap looped around the grab handle just in front to wheel the case, not ideal but it serves the purpose, is relatively discrete and prevents any chance of me having to pay the dreaded surcharge!
I hope this helps someone.
All the best
The bags are also nice and light and held enough for 4 days. We used it as a rucksack when the wheels didn't cope with the cobble streets in parts of Rome and they were comfortable to wear. We plan to take them away with us on a weeks holiday later on in the year. I liked all the internal pockets- ideal for tickets etc. Overall good buy.
METHOD: I undid the zip on the internal lining to expose the pole, at the opposite end to the handle just one screw is securing the metal pole into the plastic bracket. I removed the screw and pulled out the pole (IMPORTANT: If you try this WEAR GLOVES as the end of the pole has sharp edges - I learnt the hard way and my bag has now been personalised with a little of my own DNA). With a good hacksaw, I sawed 5 or 6 cms off the end of the pole. I replaced the pole and marked where the hole for the screw should go. I pulled out the pole and drilled the hole. It might have been easier to drill in situ. I replaced the pole and secured with the screw. Voila, my case is now the right length.
The bag arrived promptly and looks pretty good, strong fabric and zips, but put it against a similar £150 bag and you'll appreciate the difference. The handle had been badly fitted; it was at an angle to the bag and when it was packed with just 10 Kilos I didn't feel I could trust it to stay on.
The seller gave measurements but didn't allow for the handle. I had read the warnings in other reviews and decided that - at such a good price - I'd give it a go. The size is an important consideration for anybody wanting to use it as cabin luggage and, as that is what it is primarily designed for, it would be nice to see the seller altering the description.
The handle puts it about four centimetres oversize along that length and, as this one was badly fitted, I removed it, drilled out the poorly aligned holes and fitted a 3mm bolt. This was small enough not to be uncomfortable for my fingers when I pulled it along and would have allowed me to remove it at the airport if the airline had thrown a wobbly. One reviewer described removing the metal telescopic pole and cutting a small length off. I looked at doing this but found it just allowed the bag to be squashed along that length - so if it was fully packed how would it squash? Cutting a length off the inside end makes no difference to height the handle protrudes from the case.
I'd packed for a six day trip. With the four compression straps just slightly tightened I was relieved to find it easily slipped into the size checker at the airport with no squeezing, shoving or foul language. Any of you who have flown with easyJet will appreciate my concern!Read more ›
When the bags arrived I thought they looked great and pretty sturdy for the price. Just to be sure, I decided to measure them and, as others have stated here, the measurements are not as advertised - the bag is larger. Unfortunately, I ordered the bags before any other reviews appeared.
I am now considering swapping them for the standard backpack, but may first make a trip to the airport to see if it will squeeze into the hand luggage gauge of our airline - fortunately I am only a mile from the airport.
The bag is great and would be a 5 star product if it fitted the description. However, as it is too big for it's purpose it just another rucksack with wheels.
