Product description

Product Description

This 20th anniversary collector s edition of Howard Shore s score for Ed Wood has been remastered, repackaged and includes 4 bonus tracks that were not included on the original release. Ed Wood, the award-winning film by Tim Burton, is an homage to an innovative era of filmmaking when there were no limits to imagination. Shore composed, orchestrated and conducted the score inspired by Sci-fi and B-movies from the 1950 s. The work is wonderfully strange and punctuated with Afro-Cuban rhythms and strikingly poignant moments that capture the highs and lows of the life, work and passion of Edward D. Wood Jr. Performed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the score also highlights the great playing of the brilliant Russian Thereminist Lydia Kavina (the grand-niece of the inventor Léon Theremin).

5.0 out of 5 stars The "best" film score of all time for the worst director of all time 3 Jan. 2014
By Istvan Regos - Published on Amazon.com

Who would've thought that Tim Burton could find someone else besides Danny Elfman that could live up to the challenge of creating the unique soundfield for this classic of a "classic". But In came Howard Shore, the Lord of the Rings and did it with such creativity and talent that it blew the listener's mind. Mr. Elfman must admit that he himself couldn't've done a better job. And that's a big thing to say considering what a great talent he is.
The 40's and 50's had scary and cheesy monster movies and the films had distinctive, specific music with special instruments all of which are utilized by Shore, who is a true master of orchestrations (just like Elfman and his chief orchestrator, Steve Bartek).
Right from the superb main titles until the end credits we get one of the best scores of the 90's and clearly one of the best of his career from Shore.
Music and film are in perfect harmony, while music always serves the narrative and only comes in the foreground when necessary.
In every way it's a must have by two of the greatest storytellers in film history. This CD comes with my highest recommendation for those who love Howard Shore and homages to the classic 40's-50's monster movie music.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my favorite soundtracks of all time! 21 July 2015

LOVE this soundtrack! It really brings back the film…which is one of my favorite! If you liked the movie, and you like soundtracks you will love this I believe! I remember seeing the film and thinking Danny Elfman did this…I think Elfman is awesome but Howard Shore nailed this big time!
