Product description

Product Description

F1.2 High Speed LEICA DG Nocticron Lens - The name "NOCTICRON" was newly defined by Leica Camera AG for this lens that achieves remarkably fast F1.2 aperture. The popular 42.5 mm of middle-telephoto focal distance (Equivalent to 85 mm on a 35 mm camera) is definitely suitable for portrait with rich stereoscopic effect. Together with the high-speed aperture, you can utilise the beautiful soft focus for more impressive, creative shots. 9 blades give the aperture a rounded shape that produces a smooth effect in out-of-focus areas when shooting at larger aperture settings.

OK lets start with a bit of background. I am an amateur photographer with a Lumix G6. Up to now I have used an Olympus 45mm 1.8 as my standard lens for portraiture and I have been very happy with the results. However when a new lens comes along with rave reviews you tend to wonder if its as good as they say especially bearing in mind the cost. Well after a lot of soul searching and a check on my bank balance I decided to take the plunge and buy one.
First thing to say its heavy, especially when compared to the Oly 45mm. Now this isn't a problem to me as it doesn't feel it is too unbalanced with the G6 but I imagine on a smaller body it might cause issues, and you might not want to carry it around all day on a shoot. Build quality is fantastic. Ultra fast autofocus and IOS (which Oly didn't have). The clarity seems to make the images pop out. i really can't fault this lens optically but for a more technical view read the reviews. A small issue I have is the way the lens hood attaches by means of a small screw which tightens a band inside the hood. I have noticed it leaves a mark on the lens body but doesn't affect performance.
Are the images it produces 4 times better than the Oly (as its almost 4 times the cost) probably not. Am I 4 times happier with the images, definitely yes. In fact I have now sold the Oly and the Nocitron is my go to lens for portraiture and street photography. If you can afford one get it you won't be disappointed. I have attached a sample of images with this lens. I have given it 5 stars maybe should have deducted half a star because of cost.

I told myself I didn't need this lens... I have the Panasonic 42.5mm 1.7 and the Voightlander 42.5mm... but I couldn't resist any longer and purchased it.
Wow!!! results from this lens are absolutely amazing, the bokeh is beautiful, and the lens is sharp with full contrast at f1.2.
AF is very fast and precise, Dual IS works very well on the Panasonic G80, manual focus is really smooth and nice to use.
I've have lots of Nikon fast primes and many m43 lenses, but I have to say this is my favourite lens of all, it just has a magic other lenses don't have.

I purchased a G80 to replace my GH4 for the IBIS. I think this lens will be permanently attached!

Had wanted a portrait lens for a while and had read some glowing reviews of this Panasonic/Leica combo. There are other far cheaper options for the M43 range but I ended up treating myself to this one. Despite the price I have no regrets. It's brilliant. Yes it's large for a M43 lens but it's build quality is superb. When you have it on your camera and feel the weight and aperture ring, you know you have serious piece of kit. Image quality doesn't disappoint. I'll own this lens for years to come
