Have an old ibm T43p thinkpad which is 12 years old, cdrom was faulty and old pata hard drive was on way out so I bought this caddy and removed old hard drive and cdrom and fitted this with a sata hard drive that I had lying about, was able to install the operating system on it via an external drive.
Build quality is good and the trim is finished in the same black plastic as the laptop, also has a blue hdd activity light that shows disk activity.
No instructions came with the unit but basically you screw the 4 provided screws nearly all the way into the holes on the side of the hdd, lift up the retaining clip on the caddy and slide into place... There are 4 tabs that grip the screws that you previously fitted.. Then snap the retainer into place... Slide into the laptop with power off and battery removed...
My laptop didn't recognise the new drive at first but just open the disk management in Windows 10 etc and you will see it right click on it and format it etc....
Over all we'll pleased
Cheapest way to get an old laptop working even though I don't have a cdrom now, but who actually uses them now a days...

I purchased this item to recycle a 2.5 SATA HDD for my Lenovo W530. In terms of fitting, it fits very well my laptop and there are no issues regarding to that.
However, my only problem with this caddy is that there is no hole for fixing the HDD to it with a screw. Simply using the provided plastic edges and the screws doesn't fully fix the HDD to the caddy. Luckily I had the resources to make a hole at the bottom of the caddy to fix the HDD to it with a screw but not everybody has the resources to do the same. Do I need to mention how important it is to make sure that the HDD stays fixed in its place?
By the way, the blue light is really bright!!

Arrived promptly. Adequate packaging. Fits almost perfectly in my w520. But Sits a bit proud on the outside edge. It has a very bright blue led that appears to be permanently on and has drawn some attention at the office. If all else fails cover it with tape. I am currently using it with a 500 gb Ssd for an urgent project.

Fitted into my T430 perfectly. There aren't any instructions so I was a little confused about how to fit the HDD into it but a bit of googling found a video of a similar product and it became clear to me. It holds the HDD very firmly once its properly installed and it seems to work well with my SATA connection so the HDD is working properly.

Works perfectly in my T510i, and great value compared to the "official" module.

A tip for those who, like me, have switched to an SSD and are using this module to re-purpose their previous boot drive as additional storage: remember to disable the drive password in the BIOS or the ultrabay won't see it!

Sticks out a bit at the bottom like some other reviewers have mentioned, but it works perfectly. Thinkpads are meant to be productive, with aesthetics second to function, so I really don't see a slight design error as a problem at all. Using with a t420.

Snug fit, but I was not prepared for how bright the LED on the outside was! If I had to buy again, I would pick a tray with no indicators - it's incredibly annoying at night. This isn't really a fault, just a personal preference. It otherwise does its intended purpose justice, with my laptop (Thinkpad T410) not making the slightest rattle.

Arrived quickly. Product exactly as descibed and works great with my Lenovo T420. I think the issue around tight fit people have commented on has been addressed. My drive fitted easily and there is a hinged tab that holds it in place.
