More recently I got a watch for my daughter on Amazon and the strap was far too wide. I could have taken it to a jeweller but didn’t really like to since I didn’t buy the watch from them. Since this tool from Mudder is fairly inexpensive I decided to check it out instead.
The tool has a couple of wheels. The horizontal one coming up from the base can be adjusted to ensure the strap is raised to the correct height and it’s pin lines up with the pin-hole in the strap. Then when you screw the other vertical wheel, the pin goes into the hole and pushes the strap pin out the other side of the strap.
This makes the ordeal of removing links from a metal watch strap totally effortless. It only takes a minute to adjust a strap with this and there’s even a couple of spare pins included in the box. While it’s probably not something most people would need to use every day, this is a great tool to have in case you need it and it will pay for itself after a couple of uses.
The link remover is very light in its weight at 60g, and it has a size of 6.7cm in width and 2cm in length at it minimal point, and 2.2cm at its maximum point at the knurled adjustment bolt end, and it has a depth of 2cm at one end and 2.4cm at the other end.
The remover adjustment bolt that runs through the middle of the remover tool, runs very freely and does not take long to open and close, because it runs so freely and because of the wide thread, on the remover bolt, you can completely remove the bolt if you wanted to and with the remover pin still attached on the end of it, the bolt has a total length of 6cm that’s with the link remover pin still attached, and the bolt has a diameter of 0.8cm.
You can ease remove the link remover pin at the end of the bolt, just keep the bolt in the remover tool, I found it is ease this way and grasp hold of the link remover pin body, and then turn the remover bolt anti clockwise and the link remover pin will unscrew.
On the band link remover you have a fully adjustable in height base plate, which is also ease to adjust up and down, as it sits just proud of the edge on both sides of the remover tool and it runs freely no snagging.
The widest size of watch band the remover tool can take is up to 3.5cm in width, I cannot take any wider bands but really there are not many any wider than that anyway, I would say an average band is sized at around 2.2cm.
You get three parts in the box that the ban link remover toll comes in, you of course get the main tool, and a cleaning cloth and they you get three spare watch band links, none of the spare links are of the spring loaded type.
I have been looking for an item like this, but could only find plastic ones which I was confident about. I then found this item, which is made from metal so I just had to get it to try!
It came in an amazon box, next day delivery.
It was in it own little box which included;
- Strap link remover
- 3 more pins (different sizes for different watch types)
Luckily my partner had a watch that needed altering so I was able to use this item straight away.
This has 2 wheels on it, the bottom wheel and the side wheel.
The bottom wheel rises up so you can make sure the watch is at the right height for where the pin is that is needing removed.
The side wheel is the one that pushes the watch strap pin out.
This is so practical and so easy to do!
Overall I am extremely happy with this purchase!
