Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

The Intel Core 2 Duo processor was developed to meet the insatiable demand for increased performance from PC users running multiple intense software applications simultaneously. In the office, PC usage has changed from data entry and word processing to e-Commerce, online collaboration, and an ever-increasing need for continual security and virus protection. In the home, interests have shifted from low-bandwidth photos and Internet surfing to downloading and viewing high-definition videos, as well as advanced photo and video editing.

Intel’s new 45nm manufacturing technology, with hafnium-infused Hi-k transistors, enables even more processor performance by doubling the transistor density, improving efficiency and speed relative to the previous generation, and increasing cache size by up to 50 percent. These new Intel Core 2 Duo processors deliver more performance without using more energy.

Built on the innovative Intel Core microarchitecture, the Intel Core 2 Duo desktop processor delivers revolutionary dual-core performance and breakthrough processor energy efficiency. With Intel Wide Dynamic Execution, Intel Smart Memory Access, Intel Advanced Smart Cache, and Intel Digital Media Boost, this new processor is designed to do more in less time. Additional features, which support enhanced security, virtualization, and 64-bit computing, make the Intel Core 2 Duo the most impressive processor developed for an increasingly multimedia-centered, high-definition world.

Have a MythTV setup with a server streaming my TV contents and videos to my PCs/frontends. I recently bought a 1080p LCD TV for my living room and a Blueray internal writer for my living room HTPC. Unfortunately when running HD content it was clear that the CPU I had even though dual core was not powerful enough. So instead I bought this CPU. Now I can watch HD content without any problems and I even tried a few more power hungry games and combined with my graphics card it has no problems to deal with these either. So a good buy.
Of course make sure you check that your motherboard has the right frequency so it can power this CPU - check motherboard manual/homepage. I fell into this basic trap and had to buy a new motherboard as well (and I thought I knew something about computers;-)).

Bought for a SOHO VM Server, purely because it was compatible with our existing mainboard, and it works fine. Did have some issues at first, but swapping the existing DDR2 RAM for DDR3 fixed it, and (touch wood) all VMs have been working happily since.

Not a bad processor at all.

And if you build your computer well, with good components elsewhere and a well optimised Windows installation it will perform near enough as well as others much more expensive. The FSB often becomes a bottleneck in systems that are cored by much more powerful processors anyway.

-1 Star for value, as at the moment it is the same price as the slightly better E8500.

I bought this to upgrade my server from a old Pentium E2200 CPU to something a bit beefier. I managed to overclock this to 4.2GHz at STOCK voltage (no extra heat/power consumption!) and it runs about twice as fast as the old CPU. Fantastic!

I Have this cpu Overcloked to 3.8@ and only incriesed 4 degrees
Very cool cpu and Gamming wise Is far better than Q6600 quad core beacuse at this moment most of games are not taking full advantage of the quad cores
If you are in to games this is the cpu for you ,If you are in video converting and Music converting by a quad core.

Replaced it with e8400 which worked brilliantly. Now able to use this computer again. Really good deal. Would have replaced with new machine at a much higher cost. This computer is fast enough for my internet use.
brilliant.

Have been running this with Windows 7 Prof (64 bit) for just over a month and everything I have done with it so far just works - installations, burning dvd's, file transfers, playing media inc HD content.
Everything running incredibly faster that my old P4 3.6Ghz
Multi-tasking and nothing seems to give it a prob.
Have yet to try some intensive graphic games which will be interesting to see how it handles them.
All running at Core no OC'ing because I would probably need to upgrade Mobo to benefit but I believe it is capable of so much more.
Very Please with things as they are just now and see no reason to change anything at this time

It's a processor that was built to perform that's for sure. Gets a great speed and heat on a gaming PC built to run Crysis at a stretch. I would advise any and all first time PC builders to get this processor as it balances reasonable price with reasonable performance. Just make sure that the motherboard you buy fits with this, and you're all set.
