Since I have started using one the M500 keyboard I have had no problems! This is a major usability boost for me because my job involves coding.
The keyboard is heavy with good grip on the desk via rubber feet. And I like the blue backlight with is very useful on gloomy autumn afternoons. The backlight has 4 brightness levels and off if you prefer. The best keyboard I have ever owned.
BTW, the keyboard has a standard UK layout and, although it has a Windows key, the iMac can be configured to use the UK PC layout in which case the Windows key acts like the Apple Cmd key. What is also nice is that I have a # key now (completely missing on the Apple keyboards).
So if you are an Apple Mac user and are either a programmer or have problems typing on Apple keyboards then this is the keyboard for you.
I personally don't use the macro buttons.
It is extremely well made and feels great to type on. It has Cherry MX Black switches, so it has a tactile feel but doesn't have the 'click' like other mechanical switches (such as MX Blues). HOWEVER, the disadvantage of MX Black keys are that they are heavy, it takes far more force to press the keys than say MX Reds, so if your prone to getting tired finger whilst typing this may not be the best choice of keyboard.
Additionally, if your looking to replace your keycaps you will run into the problem that the 6Gv2 has NON-STANDARD enter and right-shift keys. Finding replacements for these keys is hard enough, let alone bespoke custom keycaps. So if you looking to modify your keyboard, again, this may not be the best choice.
I like the minimalist design, however some people may want more bells and whistles on a keyboard costing almost £100. The newer version introduces a red back-light to the keys, but still, no macro keys - only media keys along the 'F' keys operated a Steelseries Media Key that replaces the right hand windows key.
Personally, I found this keyboard to be great. I like the MX Black switches, no-frills design and build quality of the 6Gv2. But the issues stated above (heavy keys, awkward keycap replacement, lack of any macro keys) may turn some people off. Maybe look at alternatives before purchasing this keyboard.
This SteelSeries Apex gaming keyboard is absolutely amazing. It's totally smooth and makes me feel so comfortable behind the screen. I used 5 days to getting used to it, but now i'm totally into it.
5/5 stars, no doubt! :)
After using it for a couple of days I fell in love with it, the mechanical switches aren't just some cheap remakes of Cherry MXs, they're high quality and feel no different from Cherry MX Blues but just a bit more quiet.
This keyboard is perfect for gaming and typing but also for those who want to get a high-quality keyboard but doesn't want to spend over £100. 10/10 mechanical keyboard for sure.
