I would like to begin by saying that I am not sure if joysticks in general are recommended for use in patients with RSI or carpal tunnel syndrome. I am sure however that they are designed for use in space flight and air flight simulator games, and in this respect this joystick excels.

Briefly, this Saitek Cyborg V1 has 7 buttons, an 8-way point of view hat, a throttle lever and a 'twist' rudder (twist the stick to turn the rudder) in addition to the usual x- and y-axes. On paper therefore this is an excellent joystick, incorporating every feature I could think of.

How is the performance in games? I have tested this in Wing Commander Prophecy, Wing Commander Secret Ops and Freespace 2. In all three games I have experienced no problems. (Only one minor complaint in WC Secret Ops: for some reason, if I invert the rudder in the game to change the behaviour to what I expect, it does not remember the setting.) I especially appreciated the twist rudder, which allows me to roll while banking/pitching -- useful for 'evasive' manoeuvres.

The feel of the joystick is good; it is easy to move, and auto-centres.

In the past I have used very cheap joysticks: e.g. 2-axis 2-button joysticks. These suffered from some major problems: even at rest, the joystick signal 'trembles', so it was difficult to fly in straight lines when using them. They would have good gradation of movement in one direction (e.g. left) but if moved in the opposite direction (e.g. right) the movement would be maximum, so making them difficult to aim with. Finally, the auto-centre mechanism would break. These problems would manifest themselves after 6-months to a year's worth of (admittedly heavy) playing.

So far I have encountered none of the above problems.

Saitek Cyborg V1 Stick (PC)

I have recently purchased this joy stick and must truly say that this is an excelent choice when you consider the the price offer! Value for money, easy to use strong built and durable, I bought it to use it with Flight simulator and the results and performance is great! Not only did I find it excelent for my intended use, but it is highly suitable to to use for any other game. This was an added feature in it that I did not expect, every button (9 in total) on the joy stick can be easily set in any order for your complete control, with any keyboard keys and be saved in a profile for each game you want. I persoanlly found this Amazing!

I must also add that I bought it from Amazon where I had been given the best price offer and least to say that their services to me had been best second to none!

i do enjoy flight sim a lot and have a lot of gear for it, and what a decent product this is by saitek. this joystick is perfect for anybody whether they be an experienced flight simmer or whether your new to flight sim, beacause they combine all the key flight controls into one joystick!, the main flight controls, the rudder, and the throttle, so your all set up for flying on flight sim. there are multiple buttons you can programme along with a small toggle for you to view the aircraft at all angles.
the feel of the joystick is very comfortable, you can hold it in either your left or right hand so usable for everyone, and doesnt ache your arm like ive found in the past with previous joysticks and yokes.
so overall i'd definatley recommend this joystick to anyone who enjoys flight sim.

After losing my old and excellent Microsoft Sidewinder stick to the upgrade to XP many years ago, I have been sans-joystick for quite some time. Recently I got back into some classic '90s games such as MechWarrior 3 and Freespace 2, which are vastly improved with stick control.

This stick's great for a gamer or a casual flight sim enthusiast. I wouldn't reccomend it for a serious flight sim, as I'm sure there are better models out there with finer control and whatnot, but they are several times the price of this.

There are more than enough buttons (six) on the head of the stick to map most commonly used controls to, like targeting and weapon selection, and the "pinkie switch" can either be used as a seventh button, or like a shift key to double the number of commands available once you download Saitek's customisation software. In fact Saitek's software is probably one of the outstanding features of this stick; it's extremely easy to use and documented well, and allows you to map any stick input or button press to macro commands. In other words, you can bind stick buttons and movement to any keyboard or mouse commands to either allow its use with games which don't usually support sticks, or to have a series of commands bound to one stick button or axis. Pretty handy, though I admit I have not needed to use it yet.

The deadzones are the only thing that really lets the stick down. They're small, and perfectly accurate enough for flying or ground vehicle movement, but when performing fine targeting with it (such as sniping in a mech) it can be a little jittery. The only other two bad points about it are the slightly plasticy quality of the buttons (they seem like they might break off if you pulled them), and the overall size of the stick.
