Up until two years ago, my experience of computer games was limited to playing Asteroids and Pac-Man in pubs and chip shops in the Eighties. Then, with uncharacteristic good fortune, I won an XBOX in a competition. BATMAN ARKHAM ASYLUM was my first purchase and suddenly the world of gaming that I'd scorned for years opened up to me - and what a treasure trove it is. I've bought plenty of other games since, but nothing has come close to the exquisite pleasure of being Batman in this and the subsequent BATMAN ARKHAM CITY. These two games are works of art, bringing Batman and his world to life with a dynamism and visual splendour that I would never have imagined possible. I have spent months and months in thrall to them. Forget The Dark Knight movies, if you want to know what it's really like to wear the cowl, you simply must enter the ASYLUM.

Batman Arkham Asylum was named Game of the Year by Xbox 360 World and rated at 95%. It's the winner of 4 awards including the 2010 BAFTAs Game Awards for Best Game and was nominated for 10 other awards.

It has an all-star cast including Mark Hamill (Voice of Joker but more well known for his part in the original star wars films as Luke Skywalker) and Kimberly Brooks (Voice of Oracle/ Gordon's daughter and also the voice of Ashley in Mass Effect 3).

Batman Arkham Asylum has hours of great playtime not just from the main story alone. The game features a number of side missions and challenges for each mission, including riddles set by the The Riddler himself. A large number of collectibles will keep achievement hunters and competitions entertained, while character bio's and interview tapes will please lore fanatics as you learn about the characters in more detail.

The game has state of the art graphics and great gameplay but some of the cinematics could do with being slightly better quality, as they are a bit disappointing compared to those in games such as final fantasy 13.

Overall, it's easy to see how the game is herald as Game of the Year and how it won the Best Game award. The lengthy playtime will keep you entertained for hours on end, with the side challenges and collectibles making the game slightly more challenging. Top notch performance by the cast tops it all off.

Great game and must have in any game collection.

The essential Batman experience, This game coupled with Nolans The Dark Knight film is the whole reason im now Batman obssessed. Before playing this game i viewed Batman as many others still do, Whenever Batman was mentioned all that i thought about was NANANANANANANANA BATMAN!! And I didn't find that very interesting. Imagine my delight as I explored Arkham Asylum with its dark, chilling atmosphere and frighteningly insane villains.
The plot itself is amazing and gripping the whole way through, the concept of the inmates running the asylum has been used before but never to this high standard. I was obsessed with this game for days and couldn't stop playing, obsessively needing to get to the next section to see what was going to happen. Now if im honest i actually found the end of the game a little anti climactic from a game playing perspective,I would have found the end boss more satisfying if it was more detailed and more difficult.
The highlight for me was the characters, Using some of the best voice actors around (Kevin Konroy and Mark Hamill) really succeeds in bringing these characters alive. I found myself dying on purpose just to hear all the Game Over dialogues from the different villains you are taking down, it really does make an amazing game so much better. Fans of The Batman Animated Series will fall in nostalgic love instantly and new fans will be instantly born from this true representation of what Batman and his Villains represent.
The extra challenge maps are fun, aslong as you are into playing the challenge maps, this edition otherwise introduces nothing new.
A must have for all Batman fans and Non Batman fans

This game is tightly written and really makes you able to feel what it would be like to be the batman. Artwork and sound really helps you feel caught up in the game. Combat is fluid and both simple and complex, giving you a great sense of achievment. Bought the next two arkham games after playing this and have reccomended and lent to many friends.

My mate has spoken highly of Arkham city story so i decided to start off with the first of this game series and this is my first type of this game (i'm a racer by nature) but i actually really enjoyed the game, the story is brilliantly put together, but be aware, on hardest difficulty the scarecrow is just so annoying and frustrating to get past.

I also love the way they used the animated series voice actors (or at least that i know of) like Mark Hamill as the joker, which is just brilliant.

A very, very good game. Definitely worth playing, doesn't drag anywhere and introduces nice new elements throughout so you don't get bored with the action.
