This is easily the best of the Guitar Hero games yet. I admit I am slightly biased towards it; being a big Metallica fan, but it's still the best one anyway.

If you've played and conquered the other GH games, then this one is NOT just more of the same. It is a lot harder than the previous games; with more complicated solos, and with the songs being longer you need a bit of stamina in those fingers!!

For me, it was fantastic to get to play some of my favourite songs on Guitar Hero; not just Metallica songs, but 'Demon Cleaner' by Kyuss and 'Blood and Thunder' by Mastodon. It is also disheartening trying to do justice to classics like 'One' and 'Master of Puppets' when they have such hard bits to master... I've only had it three days though!!

Take my word for it; whether you are a Guitar Hero fan, a Metallica fan or even just a bit of a rock/metal fan, get this game and shred away until your fingers are locked up in pain!! It's the best of the Guitar Hero series so far and not just a limp attempt at a way to make money out of a global franchise like Metallica.

Very impressed... buy it!!

Metallica GH
This game is a massive challenge. Long songs and soooooooo many notes.
OMG it rocks.
Good choice of songs and video extras too.
This is the most challenging game i played yet, had to go back to easy and still found some material hard going.
The younger kids got a bit fed up as they kept getting kicked off.
Note; A good physio might be needed to undo all your knotted muscles!

Ever wanted to be a rockstar, now you can !. This so much fun to play and so relaxing, when you start to master the tracks on more difficult levels it is very gratfiying. This is probably the best of the guitar hero series. The only problem is obviously you need the guitar to play this game. If you have one though and are a fan of metallica , this is an absolute must, what great fun it is to play all the songs from the 80's and 90's up to the present day of metallica. You'll keep comming back for mre and more !

This is, in my opinion, the best Guitar Hero game in the franchise. If you are considering buying the game only (without guitar controller), I assume that you are a GH veteran, and own a guitar already. For this reason, you will probably enjoy the game because:

1. The songs are challenging.
2. There are loads of solos (i.e. fun parts).

If you like Metallica or metal in general, the game offers the best soundtrack of any GH game by far. Guitar Hero is made infinitely more fun when you're playing songs that aren't boring or annoying to you, and it is this combination of great Guitar Hero gameplay mixed with a great soundtrack that puts it at the top of the pile.

There are loads of cool extras for the dedicated Metallica fan, such as interesting facts and trivia about each song, and if you have ever seen Metallica live, you will notice how realistically the band behaves on stage in the game. The band did extensive motion capture, so the game characters play each song as the real band would.

TO SUMMARISE:

If you are a half-decent GH player already and/or like Metallica and metal in general, you will probably love this game.

If you don't like heavy music/metal, I would recommend buying Guitar Hero 3 or Guitar Hero: World Tour instead.

I love Metallica and I love GH so this was a no-brainer for me. Definitely a lot harder than other versions of Guitar Hero so a good way to get someone trained up and good at other versions as they seem so much easier!

So i have played all the guitar hero's from legends of rock up and this is the best guitar hero yet. Even tho i'm the biggest metallica fan ever it wouldn't of changed my mind if i wasn't. The songs are hard but you feel like you achieved something when you play master of puppets and nearly 100% the solo. I play expert and before writing this review i went through all the difficultys (even tho i started on easy i forgot what it was like) and they have done well to help new or not so good guitar players. even tho this game is old you must buy it and if you ever want a match add me on the online (which owns too) my name is "drummers hell" which also reminds me, this is the first guitar hero to have double bass on the drums and what a change that has made the drumming is so much harder. Have fun when you buy it.

This is my first video game review so.... here goes. Coming to this as a Metallica fan first and a lax gamer second, I'm somewhat disappointed by this. I've never understood why, when I'm playing a song I've been playing as a drummer for 20 years, that when I play the exact same parts on the record, I get it wrong.. because this isn't a game for musicians but for people who aren't quite good enough to be musicians.. and so I have to unlearn every fill and hit I've known for years. Dave Navarro can't play his own band's songs on "Geetar Hero", so what chance do I have? All I know is that when I hold the cymbals after the opening hits of "Master Of Puppets" to keep a sharp crash, I'm getting it wrong, even though that's what Lars does.

Aside from this, the game lacks some form of structure : I would've prefrred a set of levels with the band starting off in small clubs before graduating to the stadiums. Major shows from their career are represnted in this game, but landmark shows such as S&M 99, Mexico 93, Seattle 89, and the recent - and superb - Death Magnetic tour. There's no opportunity to recreate the setlists from these shows as barely a third of Metallica's catalogue is represented, and there's no sign of often played songs such as "The Day That Never Comes", "Of Wolf And Man", "Breadfan", "Motorbreath", "Damage Inc", "Blackened", "Harvester Of Sorrow" - let alone deep album cuts such as "Eye Of The Beholder" or "Dirty Window". And there's only one song each from each of the latest albums. Don't worry though, you get "Enter Sandman"... and the "Mercyful Fate" medley which has only been performed live once since late 1998! Whoo hoo.

It sure is odd to play the Hammersmith Odeon in Master Of Puppets garb and perform nothing but songs written years later.
