Reviewed 18/10/2015

I ordered this "Gigabyte GA-Z170XP-SLI Motherboard" on the 1/10.2015 and received it on thee 4/10/2015 and it came without damage. So well done to Amazon there.
I didn't order the i5 6600k processor from Amazon though as of reading some of the reviews for it there seems to be confusions of with chip they will send. A lot of people received the i5 6600 chip without the "K" but as from the time i writing this review, it might have been rectified. Just something to watch out for though. I ordered mine from OCUK.
Now to the motherboard.
This Gigabyte GA-Z170XP-SLI Motherboard is a corker of a motherboard for the price in my eyes, It has all the features you will need for the Skylake setup. Here is a hardware review website for all the features. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DjvtVQRk28Q
Please Note: Before installing this board, download all the latest chipset driver from Gigabytes website including the new BIOS drivers which are F5a, this will proove to be vital as if you only use the F2 CD bios, then you will run into trouble if you are using 4 DIMMS of DDR4 as the F2 BIOS will only recognize 2 sticks of memory. YOU MUST UPDATE TO THE LATEST F5a BIOS. I got caught out with this at the start as the computer just kept rebooting and then I knew it had to be the bios driver. It was an easy fix. I used 4 sticks of Kingston Fury DDR4 2666MHZ and the board read it at that 2666 MHZ straight out of the box with even going into XMP settings in the bios.
The board has even an M.2 socket in there as well and USB 3.1 TYPE C connector for a bit of future proofing as well as a led strip that runs the length of the board which you can set to BEAT or PULSE or have always ON or just turn OFF in the bios.

It's a well priced motherboard with plenty of features - I especially like the addition of USB 3.1 and USB Type-C for the proper future proofing. Installation is easy, and it looks nice and subtle, especially when you compare it to my old blue motherboard. The BIOS interface is nice - you get a mouse cursor and easy overclocking functions for the CPU and RAM - but it takes its own sweet time to do its checks on boot. With fastboot enabled, all unnecessary interfaces switched off (PS2, specific PCI-E slots etc), and the C drive set as priority boot, it still takes over 20 seconds before Windows loads - about double the time compared to my old budget motherboard. Not a deal breaker by any means, but it might just be worth a mention for some.

I bought this MOBO to swap my previous Asus Z170-A due to constant random freeze issue in game. I assume it was the Skylake Prime95 problem which should have been fixed by updating Bios but I still got freezes with Asus MOBO even with latest bios. And this board with F5 bios does NOT have freeze issue at all after 4 days testing. Very solid build as well. Only minor issue is when overclocking I have to use +/- to change setting instead of a pull down menu, but that is really nothing. Over all I am very happy with this purchase.

Pros: It does what it's advertised to do. The NIC is fast, there are enough USB 3.0 ports to choke a small pony, and the color scheme works will if you're a nitpicker like me.

Cons: The BIOS is HORRIBLE. Instead of looking on all drives EFI partition for all bootable EFI files, it will ONLY find Windows 8/10 EFI files. This means if you're running any operating system and you update the BIOS, you are going to have a bad time. The BIOS update will destroy your EFI boot manager and your saved settings and basically give you a dead PC until you boot from a USB drive and fix your efi boot order with efibootmgr or some similar program or reinstall your OS. There is nothing worse than updating your BIOS an then spending 2 hours trying to figure out why your PC is dead only to find that Gigabyte decided you only needed Windows 10 to boot. As junk as Intel motherboards are, they even know you do not kill the EFI boot manager.

Firstly, thanks to Omalanrf for his very helpful review and comments.

This mobo is fantastic. Installed with no issues whatsoever. I did not even need renew the bios. 16Gb of ram (2x8) found instantly (I went into bios to enable xmp and the bios saw it as 2666mhz). Perfect.

The total system is blisteringly fast, with a 100% increase in CPU (over my old i5 3570K) and a 40% increase on FPS over my old GTX 660 according to Cinebench R15. I'm not an overclocker, so this mobo, as a no thrills Skylake platform, was perfect for me. The mobo does include an M.2 socket which I was looking for.

My spec is as follows:

Gigabyte GA-Z170XP-SLI
i7 6700 (non k)
16gb Ram (2666mhz)
GTX 960 4gb
Samsung 128gb M.2 SSD
1tb hdd

All installed and running with no hiccups.

This system runs Witcher 3 on ultra settings with ease.

Peace.

As my first pc build, this was a pleasure to work with. My only gripe being that the mounting holes down the right side aren't consistent with the standard atx mounting holes. This means you can either have the motherboard sitting ontop of the standoffs (on the right side, the middle and left side holes are fine) defeating the purpose of the standoffs IMO, or not use any standoffs on the right side (what i did). This causes a little bot of flex when plugging things in like the fans and especially the 24 pin connector.

All in all a fantastic motherboard though!
