My Nexus 5 with a thick case on hooks up no problem, the centre of the phone does need to line up with the centre of the pad. There's a bit of leeway but you can't just drop it on there - maybe without the case you can be more slapdash I didn't check.
The extra usb ports on the device are useful too. The pad doesn't come with a plug, just a USB cable, so bear that in mind depending where you want to use it. I have ended up using this on the office desk plugged into the PC, it's super convenient as you can just grab & go and the phone's USB port takes less of a daily battering. I've ordered another for the bedside too.
Smart Technology contacted me when they seen the review and kindly asked if they could help in finding out why the product was not working correctly, after checking it was most likely faulty, they sent me a replacement free of charge. I have to say their customer service was top class and the issue has been resolved, with this I am changing my review to 5 stars as great customer service and a good product to me is what makes the Amazon experience what it should be. Thanks again to Koko for the quick replies, I will be using them again for sure.
Smart Technology replied immediately to my request and explained that the manufacturer details were confidential but made a very generous offer to replace the product at half price. I have thanked them and told them about the reboot but wanted to give good feedback for a very helpful and accommodating supplier
I get a full charge fast enough. The indicator led is a nice feature to have - it isn't too bright for night use either. I can't comment on the performance of the extra two USB ports since I never use them.
The charger is large enough to hold almost any phone or tablet yet compact enough not to hog too much space on my desk. It feels sturdy, and it stays in place nicely with the rubber feet.
All in all, it's a good product that does what it says. I couldn't ask for more.
My major frustration with this device is that it is surprisingly hard to place my tablet on the charger in just the right place that charging starts. There is always an element of faffing around and checking to see if the blue light on the charger is flashing to indicate that my Nexus is being charged. This is usually accompanied by a 'docked' sound, although for some reason this does not only happen.
I might need to hack together a guiding edge to align my tablet correctly every time.
None of my friends know what it is - but they are all really impressed (???) when they find out it's a induction charger. Pictures taken and all sorts.. Hey look what I saw today fb, a black square! haha.. But I digress, it works well & charges fast. My only bug I would say is its very small so only one device at a time (unless you use one of the USB ports to insert a 2nd charge lead - so you're covered either way!).
The Nexus 7 2013 is a different story, it will drop in and out of a connection constantly and get quite warm (Not surprisingly, it's a lot of energy), so I just connect that directly via a cable now.
Be careful when choosing a charger for this though. I'm using the charger from my iPad since it chucks out quite a few amps. Try to use a charger that puts out at least 1.5 amps for the best luck.
Overall, If I had the choice again, I would go for the official Nexus wireless charger. It includes magnets to line up the devices properly, and just a better build quality overall. But, if you're looking for a bit more of a bargain and don't mind the trade offs, this is still a good idea for the Nexus 4 and 5.

Yeah, whatever. These things are a complete gimmick I don't even know why I bought it. It does the job but does the job really need doing? Read morePublished 19 months ago by Otis Wright
It does what it's meant to. I wouldn't leave my phone on it all day as it gets a bit hot after a while charging.Published 21 months ago by javi39
good item but really needs to have a more powerful charge output. But really useful just to be able to drop the phone on it and not be messing about with wires etc.Published 22 months ago by charles
