The NT-USB is a highly versatile side-address microphone that is ideal for recording singing and musical performances in addition to spoken applications such as podcasting and voice-over. It is fully compatible with all mainstream recording applications on both Windows and Mac OS based computers, as well as the Apple iPad using RODE Rec, GarageBand, or any other recording app that accepts an external microphone. Use on the Apple iPad requires a suitable USB connection adaptor, such as the Apple Camera Connection Kit. The body of the NT-USB features a zero-latency stereo headphone monitoring (3.5mm) jack, which allows you to monitor the microphone input in realtime, along with dials to adjust the monitoring level and mix between the computer/iPad audio and the microphone input. A premium pop-filter is included, which fits onto the base of the mic, positioning the filter the ideal distance from the capsule to minimise plosives (hard 'B', 'T' or 'P' sounds that produce a harsh sound) during singing or speech. Also provided is a high-quality stand mount with industry standard 3/8" thread, desktop tripod stand that allows the NT-USB to sit at a comfortable height on a tabletop, and a pouch for storage of the microphone when not in use.

I have been doing video game reviews on Youtube for a while now and whilst I later began to use a shotgun mic connected to a Tascam DR40 via XLR input, it became a lot easier for me to just simply use a Turtle Beach USB-based gaming headset to record them instead due to not having to convert the signal and transfer the files (something you'd think wasn't that big a deal until you consider that you have to play the game, write the script, record the footage, record the voice-over and edit the whole package), and bearing in mind some of the videos were an almost an hour long documentary. The Turtle Beach had a lot of background noise for every recording I did and though I also have a Blue Yeti, I was never satisfied with the sound of my voice on that particular device. Cue me getting mightily sick of having to edit out the background noise for every video, and eventually happening upon the NT-USB which is in my view an incredible piece of kit.
The sound is really quite incredible given its price and also given that it's connected via USB - no need to covert the signal for it's all done inside the device. Happy days!
I'd describe the sound as mellow though quite pronounced compared to other mics I have used in the past. If you're looking for a mic that accentuates your voice, then this is the one for you. On top of this it also has incredible low noise capabilities (something I found was sorely lacking in the Blue Yeti), a really long lead - which I'd rather have than one that was too short, a stand and a pop filter. It's also incredibly well packaged and made of solid metal construction as you would expect from Rode.
This microphone is better than the AT2020 USB+, in my opinion;
It has a bit more bass than the AT2020, which can sound a bit harsh and tinny.
It has automatic gain built in, so even if you leave your microphone open it doesn't pick up background noise and static like the AT2020 does.
Overall I am extremely happy with the RØDE bundle, I would confidently recommend it to friends.
To get the most out of this mic, get the boom (RØDE PSA1), shockmount (RØDE PSM1) and the windshield foam (RØDE WS2). It's a bit pricey, but well worth it in the long run.
I consider it a little better though as instead of 3 little diaphrams it has 1 large one.
I'm no expert in microphones but from my experience with both, I like this more.
Not only is this microphone a lot smaller and lighter, but it also comes with a built in Pop Filter!
This pop filter also takes very little space.
I did have some problem with it a few months later and had to return but that may also be my computer as it would no longer see the microphone.
I still believe this is arguably the best microphone for this price range and probably challenges a lot more expensive microphones.
Now the Yeti is securely stored away in some boxes because the audio quality of this microphone is outstanding. The sound is a lot fuller in comparison, acceptably reproducing the bass of my voice without distortion, and dealing with my slight voice-cracks and angry shrieks with similarly excellent fidelity.
The included pop filter is great, though does still let a bit of noise through when speaking very close. It's nice to have a solid piece in front of the mic, instead of an awkwardly drooping material thing attached to the base.
Speaking of which, this is the only issue I have with the whole thing. The included stand is awful. It's lightweight, cheap-feeling plastic that does not take kindly to slight knocks. It does, however, prevent some of the vibration of my desk which makes it great for live streaming with. If the stand was perhaps extendable, and had some softer, thicker padding on the tips (Either as a standard feature or a swappable extra) rather than a thin bit of rubber, I'd be able to give this a perfect rating.
The direct monitoring facility is very useful and not found on some mics that are more expensive than this. I honestly don't think any USB mic up to £200 will beat this, it's silky smooth and rich sounding. Nice weight to it, not as portable as some mics but the sound quality is worth the trade-off.
Perfect for podcasting, voiceover and best of all it is bus powered by the iPad. All that together with those striking looks, whats not to love?
