Product description

*Griddle Pan not included*

Andrew James Digital Electric Induction Hob

This versatile, fast heating electric Induction Hob is perfect for small kitchens, student accommodation, caravanning, or just as an extra cooking appliance for the busy kitchen.

At less than 7cm high it's easy to store away or to pack for trips. The hob has a whopping 2000W of power and heats up in a fraction of the time a normal electric or ceramic hob takes, with the added bonus of being able to carefully control temperature, unlike gas hobs.

Settings

The hob has a clear digital LED display and user-friendly soft touch buttons, so it's easy to control your cooking. There are 10 pre-set power levels, ranging from gently warming at 1, to a hot sizzle or roaring boil at level 10.

You can also choose to specifically set the temperature between 60 - 240°C, with the option of 20° increments. A timer can be set for up to 3 hours in 5 minute increments, so you can leave your dish on a slow simmer without worrying you'll forget to turn it off!

The built-in microcomputer ensures settings are strictly adhered to so you can trust your recipes will turn out as you planned.
.

Safety

The hob will not switch on without a pan on its surface and will switch off immediately when a pan is removed. This means it's not possible to switch it on accidentally or to leave it turned on, so you can have total peace of mind. The hob also has overheat and power surge protection
Cleaning

Not only does the glass surface of the hob look fantastic, it's easy to wipe clean, and doesn't have the same nooks and crannies of a traditional hob where dirt can collect.
Will your pans work?

It's easy to test if your pans are induction hob compatible; if a magnet sticks to the base of your pan, it is suitable for use on an induction hob. Please note this hob will not work without an induction compatible pan on the surface.

I have bought two of these hobs, one from Amazon and one elsewhere.
They are fine to start with, but:
Both have developed the same dangerous fault, which has actually caused a fire in our kitchen.
If this is a common fault, there should probably be a product recall required
( Looking at the other one and two star reviews, this is a common problem- for some immediately and others after a few months )
Andrew James's response is just: 'We can confirm that your cooker is out of warranty' - with no interest in the problem

They worked fine to start with. Recently, from levels 3 to 10, the hob is putting out full power, regardless of the setting. I only know this from having tested both with a mains current / watt meter.
(Levels 1 and 2 pulse full power on and off equally for 2 or 3 second bursts

This is a dangerous fault, as people will not know it is doing this and assume the level setting does something.
A pan of rice was left to simmer on the hob on level 3, which is normally a medium simmer for a litre of water.
While unattended, because it was putting out full power instead of simmering, the pan of rice boiled dry and caught fire
If this is a common fault, the product should be recalled

When reading reviews I always start with the worst ones first, then take snapshot reads of other comments as you go up the star rating, to get an overall impression of what the device is like, and what its failure rate is. As with all devices electronic, there will be a small failure rate, then there will be the consumers that have never used even a ceramic hob cooker, let alone electric, then those that are just unfamiliar with a range of cookers, all unique in the way you cook with them. I have used a ceramic hob cooker for years.

I read quite a bit about how fast at heating this hob is, which to me is great, but to those who are used to cooking on electric hob cookers, it may appear a bit too fast. Turn a gas cooker on high flame and it will heat quickly, this cooker does heat up fast, but I found it far more controllable than a standard electric or ceramic hob cooker.

This cooker reacts more like a gas cooker would, with the added benefit that you can set the temperature and walk away.
If you want to simmer something with a lid on, set it to 80 degrees, lid off 100 degrees and walk away and get on with other cooking, it heats up to whatever temperature you set, and maintains that temperature. If you need to cook something at a set temperature for a given time period, just set it up to do so.

This does what you need, as long as you take the time to get used to it, and stop treating it like every other hob you have used, unless it was an induction hob.

A terrific bargain and works faultlessly after a long heavy use ownership. Almost as instant as using gas.

ARE YOU SITTING COMFORTABLY ? Then I'll begin !!

The phrase ''A WATCHED POT NEVER BOILS'' can now be happily consigned to the dustbin of history !! This incredible invention DOES IT ALL... from a slow simmer, to a gentle saute, to a rolling boil, and everything in between - all COMPLETELY, controllable - whether you use the pre-sets, or the temperature control. A bright 5 year old could master both, in 5 minutes !!

Any reasonably experienced cook will tell you, that being able to SIMMER at a constant, low temperature, is an essential. Any cook IN A HURRY will tell you that bringing a pot of cold water to the boil, takes AGES. Well... NOT ANY MORE... for EITHER !! I regularly make chicken stock and then put it in the fridge. After 3 days, if it has not all been used, you have to bring it to the boil. From REFRIGERATOR COLD, to a ROLLING BOIL, TAKES ... 4 minutes !! and this is for TWO QUARTS... a lesser amount comes to a rolling boil, in a matter of SECONDS. Don't leave the kitchen thinking its going to take ages... IT DOESN'T.

We use both the temperature controls and the pre-sets... for instance, if you want to saute, it takes slightly more than #1 pre-set. It is merely a case of ''try it and see'' - after three or four days, we had a very comprehensive idea of what we needed, in ALL the regular dishes we make. The pleasure of using these incredible devices, continues to unfold on a daily basis !!

HOWEVER, what makes the steam come out my ears, is that I NEVER KNEW ABOUT THEM, UNTIL FIVE WEEKS AGO !!!!!!! grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

If you want completely controllable cooking, install these little beauties and watch them CHANGE YOUR LIFE IN THE KITCHEN... FOREVER !!

Submitted with the greatest pleasure in the world
