New interpretation of the classic fairytale about a clever cat (Richard M. Dumont) with magic boots. Though he is no gentleman, Puss 'n Boots (Dumont) helps Little Pete (Daniel Brochu) on a quest to win the heart of The Princess (Holly Gauthier-Frankel). The evil Chamberlain (Arthur Holden) also wants to marry The Princess and is willing to go to any lengths to win her hand, including turning her other suitors into toads.
I found this extremely funny. The animation was very well done and the story close to Perrault's original. I have to say I knew from the beginning when the soundtrack began on accordion and kazoo that I was going to like it, and like it I did. It was very much a feelgood movie unless one made the mistake of rooting for the wrong characters, but in that, it's like Pantomime and as such, it's fairly obvious from the beginning who is going to triumph over whom.
OKAY PEOPLES!!THIS FILM IS NOT AND NEVER WILL BE DREAMWORKS'PUSS IN BOOTS'.I THINK IF YOU GET THAT OUT OF THE WAY TO BEGIN WITH,THEN YOU MAY WATCH IT A LITTLE DIFFERENTLY.I WATCHED 'PUSS' FROM DREAMWORKS[WONDERFUL,MARVELLOUS,SUPERB,AND ANTONIO BANDERAS ALSO!]AND LOVED,LOVED LOVED IT.I AM NOT SURE HOW YOU CAN MIX UP THIS FILM,FROM THE COVER,WITH THAT ONE.THE 'PUSS' IS NOTHING LIKE THE DREAMWORKS ONE TO EVEN LOOK AT.WELL,OKAY,THIS ONE IS KIND OF GINGER AND WEARS BOOTS,YES,AND A HAT---BUT CLEARLY NOT THE SAME.I CAN SEE HOW PEOPLE WOULD BE DISAPPOINTED IF YOU SAW THE 'BANDERAS PUSS' FIRST AND BEGAN COMPARISSONS--DONT.I FOUND THIS DVD WATCHABLE,AND ,YES,THIS PUSS DID HAVE SOME KIND OF STRANGE ACCENT[!]AND APPEARED TO BE A 'PUNK PUSS'[!!],BUT ITS NOT AS BAD AS SOME PEOPLE HAVE SAID,IN MY HUMBLE OPINION.JUST WATCH IT FOR WHAT IT IS---AND DONT EXPECT A 'DREAMWORKS' KITTY IN 'HIS WEE LITTLE BOOTS'TO APPEAR,BECAUSE YOU WILL BE WAITING A LONG TIME!!
Streamed this through prime and hadnt read the note saying it wasn't the DreamWorks version. It's an awful version. Horrible looking characters, quite creepy lookin. Don't bother its terrible. My son managed 15 mins before turned it off. Looks so much like the shrek version from the pic and the title but its terrible
Nope, it isn't Dreamworks, but the attempt to a tell a story is ok. I like the art and the music in the film, because they used classical pieces. However, the cat is annoying and the story doesn't always flow perfectly. I think children would like this film, but I think adults will be too annoyed about the flaws. So, three stars from me. If only the makers of this film would work out the story a bit better, it would be a great film.
It's an easy mistake to make, choosing this DVD over the better know version from Dreamworks with only one letter difference in the title. We did in the supermarket as we tried to get round as quickly as possible! As a result I'd start off by giving credit to Amazon for the title here stating clearly that it is NOT the Dreamworks version.
If you're a fan of French (or what I think of as more "arty") movies you'll probably enjoy this. If so, I also recommend you watch "Dragon Hunters". If not - AVOID!
We got about 20 minutes in before we gave up.
- The French take on the story line is dreadful - The animation is average (at best) - The singing princess is a pain and the songs are average (and in French) - The dubbing isn't great
Without even comparing this to the Dreamworks film this is lousy. The animation is graphically okay but the animation itself is terrible, it's like animated puppets! There's unneeded pauses and the flow of the story is broken and barely credible.
Beautifully non-hollywood which may explain the low ratings. This is not a normal, custom plot and animation tactic film. It is weird and wonderful trippy expereince and you need to just let go and enjoy it in all its weirdness and see the beauty in the art.
