Keyboard looks OK when lit up and once you have disabled the annoying dim mode. Black finish on the keys is nice and it’s good to see spare keycaps included. Keys are nice for typing but feel a tad mushy on swifter movements (reloading in game, reaching for the crouch button etc).

Overall lay out is OK and seems to be more geared towards general computing with the master volume and media controls, so more of an all-rounder than gaming specifically. This is no bad thing as other keyboards such as the Blackwidow lacks any kind of media keys which means you would have to control+tab out of game to adjust volume.

Main issue with the keyboard is that it is still out of it’s depth when comparing to similar priced competition. For £15 more you get a Blackwidow or K95, infact you can get a K70(which has the media controls too) for £5-10 cheaper which is ultimately a better keyboard. So in isolation it’s not bad at all but when stacked up to the competition it falls short.

EDIT: I have come back to this after months of use and thought maybe I was a little harsh initially. The STRIX has served me well and survived enough spill & knocks that would take out lesser brands so it has earned itself an extra star for durability.

Not sure what the other reviewer is talking about. This product is really sturdy and surprisingly heavy and solid. It's not flashy, it's a very simple backlit keyboard with a few macro keys. Wait for a sale, I wouldn't pay more than £70 for it but as a mechanical keyboard it's perfect. They just need to lower the price.

After reading some of the slightly negative reviews I was initially put off of buying this keyboard however being an Asus fan boy and after being bought in to the strix products with a recent purchase of the strix gtx970 graphics card I wanted to see how Asus faired on peripherals.

The negativity surrounding this keyboard seems a little extreme as the drivers and software were downloadable straight from the Asus website so this didn't pose a problem for me as I would have downloaded the latest versions of everything anyway so a software disc is redundant in my eyes.

Anyway, on to the keyboard itself! The feel of this keyboard took a few days to get used to due to having 10 of the macro keys on the left hand side so where I rested my left hand had to be adjusted slightly, I guess this would be the case for anything which is shaped slightly differently to what you are used to. Functionality is strong for a mechanical keyboard and the volume/play controls in the top right are a fantastic addition and work out of the box for me.

Build quality is good and it feel sturdy, although it has a plastic feel to it, it is a very strong plastic and can see it taking a lot of abuse before it would give up and crack or break.

Value for money is borderline at the £100+ but at less than £100 I'd suggest it is a good value for money purchase.

Overall I would rate this keyboard as a good all rounder for various game types and recommend to a friend.

Very good keyboard, love it and very efficient. The manual was a bit difficult to work around and one of the programs on the disk can stop it from working so i suggest googling that or something.

Arrived on an expected time and discovered a box within a box which we all love. Plugged straight in and the drivers worked! However the program stated early can send you down sh!ts creek. Overall was amazing and still satisfies my gaming needs

The keyboard is really nice to type on and to play games on. The red switches mean you have to be very careful where you rest your hands, let one of your not in use fingers relax a little on a key and it will register it as a press. This is a pro or a con depending on how you like to game, for me it is a pro as I play very light and fast on touches.
One nark is that it doesn't come with the CD with the software as it suggested and all I could find on Asus's website was a firmware update for the keyboard which is in .rar format and I don't have any software that can open it. I have literally searched all over their main Asus and their ROG website and have found nothing. This means that the main features of the keyboard are limited and as such is why it is receiving only 3 stars to stand for "Top quality mechanical keyboard with possibly the nicest and most relaxing Orange LED I have seen but reduced advertised functionality of the product as the software apparently does not exist ;P "
