Product Description

Colour:Black

The Philips Viva juicer extracts all of the nutritious juice from your fruit and vegetables and can make up to 2 L of juice in one go. The XL feeding tube means that preparation time is significantly reduced prior to juicing. All you need to do is feed your fruit and vegetables directly into the tube and the juicer will do the rest.

Once you have made your jug of raw juice, cleaning your juicer could not be easier. Thanks to the QuickClean technology, this juicer can be cleaned in just 1 minute. All surfaces are made with smooth and easy clean materials, including the electro polished sieve, which means that the machine can be cleaned in just 1 minute. To make cleaning even easier or to flush through the machine between making different types of juice, Philips juicers now have a Quick Rinse function. Simply pour water through and switch on and all residual particles will be flushed through the juicer. Additionally, the special design of the integrated pulp container means that the juice is channelled through the juicer more efficiently. This results in more juice being extracted from your ingredients and also less mess is created as all the pulp is channelled directly into the see through pulp container.

This juicer does actually make producing your own fresh juice at home pretty well as quick and easy as it can be. The results are good and cleaning up the machine is far less of a faff than with the other method I used before owning this - an attachment on a food processor. You really get the impression that every detail of this machine has been designed to ensure that it doesn't languish in a cupboard unused because it's more trouble than it's worth.

The first good thing is that all the parts fit together intuitively and are easy to take apart when you have finished using it. The feeder tube for the fruits is really large - you can see in my photo below that it takes a whole orange with ease. It also juices apples really easily with little preparation and has handled every fruit I can throw at it. I would have liked to see more instructions with the juicer itself as to recipes and how to prepare fruits ; for that I have had to look elsewhere. Using it at first was a bit of a learning curve due to the minimal instructions, but once you've got the hang of it results are good. The jug it comes with takes up to 1 litre - in my photo you will see I got 500ml from 5 large oranges. Juicing this amount of fruit is really quick, though that 700watt motor is fairly noisy.

All the bits you don't need are collected neatly as you can see and the whole thing can all be washed in the dishwasher or by hand. I find that I get the best results by rinsing through with water, as suggested (making sure I use the provided jug to collect water or else it goes everywhere as I learned the hard way. I think one minute to clean up might be optimistic but it's certainly fairly quick and easy.

The juicer is quite large but it has a manageable footprint.

This plastic/stainless steel outfit comes impeccably packed in a box measuring around 46 cm x 25.75 cm x 25.75 cm.
It comes with around 1 m of cable, which stows neatly away around the base when not in use.
UK plug.

I should say that this is my first ever experience using a juicer and I love it, simple as that!

Initially I wasn't sure if it would be relegated to the back of a cupboard, because I don't find it particularly attractive as far as countertop gadgets go and it looked like it was going to be a pain to assemble/disassemble, when required.
But it has been out more often than not over the last three months, particularly to use up the remainders of 3 for 2 offers on various fruits which I can never resist in the supermarket.

It is bigger than I was expecting but fitted together easily enough using the box lid instructions, rather than the sketchy manual. It stands just short of 40 cm high and needs a good bit of clearance above for the 'feeding tube'.

Disassembled, it fits neatly onto one shelf in my cupboard although its four suckered feet stick rather well to the shelf and it is a bit of a challenge to get it off and out! However, this is a great asset in practice, for the machine stays put on my smooth countertop, when in action.

Granted, there is a bit of preparation required depending on what e.g. fruit you use but I would be cutting the outer skin off a pineapple, taking the peel and main pith off the oranges and halving the passion fruit to extract the seeds, in any case.

There is one switch ~ ON or OFF ~ and just the one speed.

In goes the fruit, in batches, via that aforementioned feeding tube which is around 7.

Tricky one to review. I want to give it five stars, because it was really, really good. But the lack of documentation lets it down and is, Philips, a major problem - so much so that I nearly dropped to three.

It's really good at it's job if you use it for what it is intended for - i.e., juicing.

That may be patently obvious at the moment but the lack of documentation doesn't help. When it arrived, we followed the one recipe on the lamentable instruction sheet for Carrot, Orange and Ginger and we were converted. It was wonderful, and after three weeks still remains a favourite. But you can only juice things that have juice in them. As I say obvious, but it isn't. You have to dig around on Philips website to find clues on what will juice, there's little indication with the product and you'll (although I saved you the trouble) find the following (Retrieved 4/15):

"Some fruits can be juiced as they are without need for preparation, making your juicing diet quick and simple. These include apples, pears, celery, tomatoes, carrots and cucumbers. Other fruits and vegetables that require preparation before juicing include ginger, oranges, lemons, kiwis, melons and uncooked beetroot. It is very important to remove all stones and stems from fruits before juicing such as plums, nectarines and peaches; and remove skins of citrus fruits or hard skinned fruits such as melons and pineapples." (Philips website 4/5/15 - Amazon does not allow links)
"The last group of fruits and vegetables that are not suitable for processing in the juicer are bananas, figs, papayas, sugar canes and avocados. This is due to the fact that they do not produce juice; therefore we recommend that you blend all fruits of a fibrous nature.
