Having tried MANY NR phones , these and the BOSE have been the only ones that dramatically reduced the ambient noise levels.
Other lower priced phones, just did not come anywhere close, on paper at least you would think that any two NR would cut out the same amount of noise, but actually the differences are vast.
With the ATs, just like the BOSE, when you switch on the NR circuit it is like someone has placed 2 cushions over your ears......lower priced phones by comparison simply just cut out a little low freq. sound, the difference is huge, which is why BOSE keep on selling their phones at the £ 300 price range.
So to sum up, these are 100% as effective as the BOSE in reducing noise, they are seriously effective and dramatic in this dept.
Sound quality ? V.good, tight non boomy bass, and nice clear sound, less artificial sounding than the BOSE, but either would be more than good enough for the intended application ( Planes, trains, cars, coaches etc )....none of these phones are true high end audiophile quality, for that look at open back Sennheisers, or similar....
In terms of effective NR, these are on the same level as BOSE and SONY MDR-NC5000 phones.
Value ? Simply excellent, at 40% of the BOSE price, and offering identical NR and possibly better sound quality too, these are a relative bargain......Take a look at the Sony 5000 models too, they offer excellent NR too, but the sound isnt as good as the ATs.
Noise cancelling is perfect. Bose is a bit better, but only by a bit (the bit is not worthy of another 150 pounds). Strurdy housing and convenient for wearing.
Before buynig, I was not quite sure about the noise leeking some people mentioned in their reviews. If you use them in normal volume levels, the noise leek is minimal.
Rechargable AAA battery lasts about 40 hours.
Only worrying thing is the blue light battery indicator. The LED light is quite disturbing in the dark or when someone sitting next to you on plane trying to sleep. A tiny piece of black tape solved the problem.
When the battery is nearly drained, you will hear "radio" noise.
Overall, definitely recomended.
The biggest problem with these headphones (and the reason why I changed to Sennheisers) is the noise leakage. Even at modest levels your music will be clearly audible to your neighbours. Since these are designed to be used on planes and trains this seems to be major flaw in the design. They would be OK for watching a movie on a plane, but if you want to sit back and enjoy some music I don't think it would be long before people in nearby seats are asking you to turn down the volume.
I borrowed some BOSE ones to see if they helped-they did, however because of price I bought the AUDIO-TECHNICA ones and WOW they are amazing-much,much better than the Bose and a third of the price!
They cancel noises leaving a slight hum of the machine in the background.
Music and the radio through my ipod sounds really clear.Percussion instruments on favourite tracks are audible, which I have never heard before.
The ear pads sit comfortably on my ears.
They come in a really posh carry case.
I can not fault this product,at all, which is rare for me as I often find some element which could be improved.
Superb product- 100% recommendation

Noise cancellation and sound are quite good. However, one side of the speaker stopped working after 15 month (and very limited usage in this time frame).Published 1 day ago by Dirk Diggler
6 months in, the noise cancelling switch causes static crackles - and this is getting progressively worse. Read morePublished 17 days ago by Matt
I bought these for the sound cancelling feature. They do reduce exterior sound but not 100%. Previously I used ordinary Sennsheiser headphones. Read morePublished 4 months ago by D.N. M.
Not durable at all. After several years of use, these have completely fallen apart in 3 ways and now are not usable at all. I would expect more from such an expensive productPublished 4 months ago by Amazon Customer
These headphones saved my life at the noisy office. The noise-cancelling feature works very well, especially with music, I usually don't even hear people calling my name. Read morePublished 12 months ago by Amazon Customer
Quite disappointing. The active sound isolation produce a high-pitched hiss. The manufacturing quality is poor: the pads wore out after 1 year. Read morePublished 16 months ago by F. Ceratto
