Product description

Discover the Pocket Size version of Mr Jack, the most popular detective strategy game! As with the board game equivalent, one player takes over the role of the investigator and tries to de mask Jack the Ripper, whilst the other players take on the role of the fleeing criminal. The difference is in the execution: the hellish hunt now takes place on a 3 x 3 field board, where every field represents a street, as well as a suspect. Sherlock Holmes, Dr. Watson and a police dog are situated around the edge of the board. On every turn, player one (the detective or Jack alternate) uses 4 action markers, that allow him to move a detective marker, turn the field of play or draw a "suspect card". A suspect is only visible when the detective can see the suspect on the street in front of him. Suspects who are hidden by buildings are invisible. At the end of every turn, the player in the role of Jack the Ripper must say whether the guilty character is visible or not. If the figure is not visible, Jack receives an egg timer. If jack manages to get 6 egg timers, he wins the game. The detective win if, at the end of a turn, only one suspect remains.

Tons of replay-ability, very fast to learn and explain how to play, it's quick to play and very fun! Highly recommend this game.

This is a travel version of the great 2 player game 'Mr Jack'. Those familiar with the original will recognise similarities to it, but this is actually a different game. Essentially, there are 9 suspects and 3 detectives to find 'Mr Jack'. Each suspect is on a different tile, and the detectives travel clockwise round the tiles looking to see if Mr Jack is visible or not. When 1 character remains, s/he is guilty. Mr Jack wins either by collecting 6 hourglass tokens or surviving 8 rounds.
The box is small enough and durable enough to slip into any luggage or 'pocket'. The components are the same high quality thick card as the original. It plays fun and fast, a game lasts 10-15 minutes and does not take up much play space. This is not merely a scaled down version of the original..it uses different strategies and techniques, and you will not be buying the same game twice if you have this AND the original. I like it a lot!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Husband-Wife game since Lost Cities 29 Jan. 2014

This is a quick 15 to 20 minute game, with short set-up and clean up. We keep it in the bedroom for a fun game before bed. Much better than reality t.v. Talk about your day while having fun together. This is a strategy game but is not an "attack-your-opponent" game that leaves couples angry at each other. The sides are well balanced and neither partner will "Win" all the time. Highly Recommend! Also, the Android AP is very realistic to true game play.
4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting little game, but not our favorite. 14 Nov. 2016

Definitely short and definitely interesting. Nice pieces and fun concept. However, my wife and I don't find it all that fun. It seems like the detectives win every single time even if everything goes perfectly for Jack. I'm wondering if we really understand the rules right.

The seller send us a Chinese copy. You can get the rules online and the Chinese writing on the box isn't that obtrusive, so it worked out OK. Just be aware that if your seller ships from China, this is probably what you will get.
5.0 out of 5 stars Fun and very portable game. 28 Oct. 2013

Mr Jack Pocket comes in a super small box that would be easy to take on trips. The object of the game is to keep Mr Jack hidden from the Detectives if you are playing as Mr Jack, or discover who Mr Jack is if you are playing as the three detectives. The game is easy to set up consisting of 9 tiles that you set up in a random 3x3 grid. The tiles are flipped over during game play and have artwork on both sides. There are nine suspect cards, 3 detective tokens and 4 action tokens. The game pieces are well constructed with really nice artwork on them and look like they will last. The game itself is easy to learn and fun to play. The games are quick and last about 15 minutes with tons of replay value as each game will be different. There is some strategy involved which makes the game very interesting and makes you think about your next move. We love the game and will enjoy playing it and taking it with us on trips for many years to come.
5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for couples 18 Mar. 2016

This is the perfect game for partners or spouses who aren't serious gamers, but who want to do something together that is fun, interesting, and unplugged. It's simple to learn and takes about 15 minutes to play. Make that 30 minutes, if you want to swap roles and have each person take a role as detective and Jack.

In our house, game play is a bit imbalanced. One of us is almost always going to win word games and strategy games like Chess, while the other is going to almost always win skill games like darts. That can get a little tiresome. Mr. Jack is a perfect fit because it isn't just a random luck game, but there is enough of an element of luck to give the less strategic thinker a fighting chance. There are very few games out there that are great for two players, but this is one of them.

I also love the small size, which makes it great for travel. It's a great distraction if you find yourself stuck inside due to inclement weather.

Highly recommend this game as a gift-giving option for couples. We've paired it with popcorn, sweet treats, and wine as a gift for several couples, and have had each of them go out of their way to mention that they enjoy it.

We purchased Mr. Jack in a self-made bundle with a few other board games just to round it out with something small. Mr. Jack had been recommended to me, but I was told that the pocket version was nearly the same game (and a bit cheaper as well). I would have to agree with a lot of the reviews on here that say it is a good travel game. The box is maybe a little bigger than a square coaster (for drinks) and no more than 2 inches tall. Perfect game to throw in your girl's purse before going out to dinner or just taking with you somewhere to play (possibly on work breaks).

Very little set up is required, and once you play through the game once the rules are pretty easy to understand. It is a little difficult at first to grasp the turns and how they work to go back and forth between the inspector and the suspect. I also recommend just flipping the coins on your turn instead of "rolling" them because we find that when you just toss the coins up they usually fall right back down and flat on the table the way they were thrown. That would be my only complaint for the game, but otherwise it's pretty fun. Takes no more than about 15 minutes to play through a game, and we split the wins on our first few games so it doesn't seem to be too one-sided. Not a lot of depth to the game, but plenty of strategy and thinking about your moves many turns beforehand. Just keep in mind that you don't have a lot of time to find Mr. Jack if you're the inspector, but you also don't have a lot of time to hang around in town if you're Mr. Jack! Plenty of fun to be had with this one, and a go-to pocket/travel game, or quick game to kill time.
