It is a shame as I was looking forward to hanging my camera at silly angles and being creative.
I ordered from Amazon themselves and not an unknown seller, as I hear there are cheap, inferior copies around sometimes advertised as genuine Joby Gorillapod.
When I first took the package out the box, the gorillapod looked quite big but once i took it out it wasnt as chunky as i thought. The rubber balls on the legs which makes it flexible are secure yet easy to adjust, and it holds my DSLR with no problems at all. I was taking photos of colour cards so i fixed the Gorillapod to the arm of a chair and hung the camera above the floor. It looked so secure that i wasn't worried about it losing grip at all - the legs were long enough to wrap 2 of them around the chair's arm and the other to pin it upwards in position.
It also fits snugly into my camera bag - I have a Crumpler Pretty Boy Large, and when curled round the Gorillapod fits into the front pouch with enough room to fully close the main flap of the bag.
Overall i am very pleased! Some people say to beware as they don't hold the weight they say they do, but i haven't found anything to support this so far.
Highly recommended to someone looking for a small tripod but aren't willing to put up with the huge equipment.
Portable, Stable, Flexible
The three words i'd use to describe the gorillapod.
The legs are easy to bend yet won't flex under the cameras weight. The plyable head-piece means that once you've got a secure fit, you can move the camera without the need to readjust the legs. One downside however is the lack of a built in spirit level (however, hotshoe spirit levels are quite cheap so i'd buy one of them as well). The overall design feels very durable and resillient. The rubber grips do a great job and there is very little slip.
The great thing about the Gpod is how easy it is to carry. Either rolled up in a ball and kept in a bag or (for people who just want to go out and shoot for a while) wrapped around your arm giving you two hands to shoot when you don't need it. The Gpod does a great job of holding onto nearly anything. Ok, so it can stick to walls as such, but its ability to wrap around a variety of objects or be balanced on nearly any surface make it a great addition to any photographers equipment roster.
Of course, it's small size does restrict it in certain ways. For landscapes and portraits where there isn't a suitable place to set/attach the Gpod, a conventional tri/mono-pod is a better weapon of choice.
In conclusion, umm... buy one! It's not expenisive compared to other conventional tripods and helps open up a new dimention of steady shooting photography!
