This puzzle has 300 pieces which are a good size and thickness for smaller hands so it's not too fiddly. The picture itself is, (as you'd expect from the guys behind the Horrible... series), bright, amusing and full of facts. My five year old son has been learning about space in school, so we decided to give this a go to see if the subject matter would inspire him to complete a jigsaw puzzle. Would it ever?! He and his little brother have been enthralled by the picture and, with a little guidance to help them concentrate on one area at a time, have done an admirable job of putting this puzzle together. There are lots of little details in the picture which help younger children to locate the correct positions for the pieces and I would imagine that children of six or seven upwards would be able to cope with this puzzle very well, with minimal adult intervention. There are also lots of space facts crammed into the jigsaw - all the planets and their positions, most of their moons, comets, the red spot...the list goes on and is sure to delight any young space buffs! Included with the jigsaw is a Spotter's Guide to the Solar System with some slightly more unusual facts about space - did you know for example that there are around one billion tonnes of diamonds just floating around up there?!
In summary, this is a really good quality jigsaw that is good fun too. If there are any reluctant young puzzlers out there then this series may well inspire them...and you never know, you may well learn a thing or two as well!
My 6 year old loves it, and has completed it several times. The pictures are amusing and informative, and the pieces are very large and well made.
It doesn't take days to complete (being only 300 pieces), and it's very easy to identify where each piece fits in the puzzle. The first time took a while, but now it only takes an hour or two to put it together. On that regard, it's probably better aimed at younger children - a teenager would certainly think it beneath them (unless they were helping a younger brother or sister).
It doesn't give a very good idea of the relative size and position of the planets, or indeed of the physics of space travel - but it is a lot of fun and definitely captures the imagination.

All the puzzles in this series are great. Although other reviewers have given it to younger children it kept a 9 and 12 year old occupied. They really enjoyed it.Published 3 months ago by Amazon Customer
