Fantastic Live Album. Barretto had a new band and brought Orestes Vilato and Tito Puente to do a timbales duel in "Que Viva La Musica: which still is one of the most cherished timbales exchange in modern latin music history .

THis live version is unique and the quality is good.
The original songs in studio are more flat, the live versions are as if your were there.
5.0 out of 5 stars Ray Barretto and his band captured live at the peak of their powers. 26 Jan. 2015
By Justo Roteta - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Recorded live at New York City's Beacon Theater, this historically important album captures the late Ray Barretto at a time when he could seemingly do no wrong. The mid-1970s represented a time period when Salsa bands took no prisoners and took the music to the next level and the extended jam sessions on this album are all excellent examples of this. Adalberto Santiago, Ruben Blades and Tito Gomez are the lead singers and they all prove that they were first-class Salsa singers from day one. This is live 1970s Salsa at its very best and no self-respecting Salsa fan should be without this CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Long time out of market, but back again at last!!!! 1 Nov. 2002
By e.s. ortiz-gonzalez - Published on Amazon.com

This live CD -an 'all-stars'reunion of every musician who played with the Barreto Orchestra- can be justly described as a landmark in salsa and latin jazz music. Why? I will give you the chance to listen to it without any further comments, besides than that by the time that this album was recorded, the Barreto orchestra was THE orchestra, and that before this CD remastering, this album was one of the white-hot items in Europe and in the US. Everyone that knew about salsa music and about this CD were willing to pay anything -and I really mean it- to have a copy of it, not an original, but a copy of it (If you happened to be a serious collector of salsa music, and you didn't have this album, you were destined to experiment eternal shame between your friends). So, are you in latin jazz? Have you heard Barreto before, and got mesmerized by his unbelievable sense of rythmn and conga drum playing? Haven't heard anything about latin jazz, but are willing to explore? You love salsa music? Are you a Barreto fan already, but this CD is the last one to complete your CD collection of this orchestra? Well, here's the CD then. Give it a chance-you will not repent it. Better yet, you will not stop playing it for at least a month. Like the idea? So check this out. Enjoy.
